As we all know, the kitchen is often humid, and the cutlery may be left wet or damp for a long period of time and may often go rusty. Rust occurs when metal is exposed to damp air and it can weaken metal tablewares.
Here are some practical e useful tips to help and just a few common things needed.
Place the rusty cutlery in the vinegar (do not add water), soak it for 30 minutes. Wipe down each piece of cutlery with a damp cloth to remove any residual rust. Rinse with warm water to remove the vinegar, then let it dry.
Sprinkle liberally with salt and pour lemon juice into the dish, enough to cover the cutlery. 2 hour later, scrub it with a mesh scrubber to remove all of the rust. Rinse well with warm water, and dry with a clean cloth.
Add 1 tsp. of baking soda into hot water - soak the knives for about 30 minutes - rinse in cold water - let dry naturally - buff the cutlery once it's dry.
Dampen the silverware - apply non-gel toothpaste to a soft toothbrush gently scrub - rinse thoroughly in cold water - let dry naturally - buff the cutlery.
Because it's not environmentally friendly, lighter fluid should be your last option. It is, however, very effective when removing rust from stainless steel. Pour a little on a clean rag and wipe down rusting stainless steel. Be sure to rinse the flatware well after a lighter fluid treatment and properly dispose the rag.
