This matter can be nerve-wracking for even the most professional people. Some suggest 4WD, because 4WD of the extra power and speed – in short, they are generally faster around the track than 2WD.
But some say that while 2WD is harder to drive, the higher skill requirement will make you a better driver.
This is the normal "beginner" class, and is actually the most popular class of racing on our off-road track.
All levels of drivers race this particular class at every race meeting – it's everywhere.
We typically all started with 2WD because, although they might look a little more difficult to drive than a 4WD, it is a bit more challenging and rewarding when you're racing around and keeping up with the 4WD.
And if you ever do go to 4WD you will handle it much better right out of the gate simply because of the experience and fine control.
Finally, 2WD models offer some major advantages over 4WD:
● Cheaper to buy
● Much easier to build and maintain
● Move a little slower in most circumstances, so don't break so easily
This tends to be something people pick up once they've mastered 2WD.
As all 4 wheels are driven, they are more stable with extra road grip; but they are also much more direct and aggressive in driving style.
4WD also places far more emphasis on throttle control and precise movements. With 4WD models, you don't have to be as precise because you can use the throttle to manipulate the vehicle to a greater degree.
4WD will reward drivers who are comfortable being on the edge of control while 2WD rewards drivers who are smooth and precise. However, they are more expensive to buy and are more complicated to build and maintain.
Trucks are very much considered the "fun class". Trucks come in either 2WD or 4WD versions, but as with buggies, 2WD trucks are more popular.
They also come in either short course or stadium truck shell shapes.
The short course is the most popular because the wheels are enclosed, and although not strictly speaking encouraged, you can make contact with other cars without causing too much trouble for either car.
Trucks are also raced by people of all levels, and "Truckers" are often heard to say "rubbing is racing", this is a little bit of a sign of the type of racing that goes on with trucks!
