As a new type of rechargeable batteries, Li-Po adopt superior lithium-ion technology, now used in many consumer electronics devices.
Unlike cylindrical and prismatic cells, Li-Po utilize a soft package or pouch which makes them lighter but also less rigid. They have been adopted to the point of being ubiquitous in the RC industry over the last few years.
Now they are the most popular choice for anyone who looking for long run times and high power.
Li-Po batteries contain acid and corrosive components that are harmful to the environment if not disposed of correctly.
So, is there any way to recycle them or dispose them safely? The answer is yes – and we will show you how.
The most important part of Li-Po disposal is to first make the batteries safe.
If the batteries have been physically damaged, resulting in splits or tears in the body covering, then please don’t discharge them! And do as following steps:
Step 1. Prepare a plastic container of cold water.
Step 2. Mix in 1/2 cup of salt per gallon of water.
Step 3. Put the batteries into the salt water.
Step 4. Leave them for at least two weeks.
After two weeks of immersion, take out the batteries and wrap them in newspapers. Now you can place them into the garbage because they have been rendered safe – not just for the environment, but also for us!
There are many ways to dispose Li-Po batteries safely. This is only one of them.
