Step 1: Slide down the “Preferences submenu” from the main screen
Step 2: Find the Regional sub-menu.
Step 3: Click on GPS to activate it (On position for HERO5 and 6 or On).
Go to the submenu by sliding down. At the top of the screen, just to the right of the time, a GPS logo indicates the status of the signal:
● the logo is crossed out: the GPS is disabled
● the logo is greyed out: the GPS signal is non-existent
● the logo is white: the signal is good
In case your GoPro cannot receive the GPS signal, stand outside and stay away from large elements. In addition, to ensure good signal reception, do not cover your GoPro.
It may sometimes take your GoPro up to 1 minute to pick up a possible signal.
Note that GPS is only available with the Video mode of the GoPro HERO7,6 and 5.
For the GoPro Fusion, GPS markers are only available with OverCapture videos.
The GPS records the distance covered, the altitude at which the GoPro is located and the cumulative altitude difference since the beginning of the recording.
The speed of the GoPro and the direction of movement are accessed by a small red compass with the cardinal points North, South, East and West.
This data corresponds to the ground track of the GoPro. The itinerary allows you to know where you stand on the path of a video.
● Speed tracker
This tracker is in the form of a graph representing the speed over time. It allows you to know when the subject will accelerate or slow down. In addition, the maximum speed is easily identified by the tracker peak.
● The g Force
This indicator symbolizes the force that is exerted in real time on a moving subject.
To display the data, it is essential that the GPS is activated when the picture is taken. Also make sure that the signal is sufficient.
You can display GPS counters on your videos with the GoPro application for smartphones (formerly Capture) or with the GoPro Quik software for computers (PC and Mac).
Just click on the small logo at the bottom of your video.
You will then be able to choose the information to display on your videos.
If no GPS information is available, you will not be able to activate the options.
In the general settings, you can choose the desired units for GPS data. You can choose between metric (Metre and Km/h) or imperial (Miles, Miles/h) units.
