In short, the 5G network has three main characteristics:
● Enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB)
● Massive Machine Type Communication (mMTC)
● And ultra Reliable Low Latency Communications (URLLC)
There are generally two ways to increase the transmission rate in wireless transmission. One is to increase the spectrum efficiency. The other is to increase the spectrum bandwidth. 5G internet uses the second method to increase the transmission rate. Take the 28GHz band for example, its available spectrum bandwidth is 1GHz, while the available signal bandwidth of each channel in 60GHz band is 2GHz.
What applications will such a high rate support? Using this technology, it will takes only 10 seconds to download a high-quality HD movie. What is more, real-time playback of 3D, 4K or 8K video, combination of ARA and VR games, high-speed upload and download can easily come true.
MMTC refers to massive machine type communication, which mainly reflects the communication needs between things. The internet of things has been a hot topic in recent years, but limited by the terminal power consumption and wireless network coverage, the wide applications for Internet of things are still in their infancy.
5G supports internet of things in entirely new ways. The core problem of Internet of things technology is power consumption: there are too many nodes and constraints in the Internet of things. In order to solve this problem, the 5G network will limit the terminal speed, reduce the bandwidth, reduce the terminal transmission power, reduce the antenna complexity, optimize the physical layer technology, and reduce the terminal power consumption by half-duplex.
The Internet of things is one of the main areas that will strongly benefit from the implementation of the 5G network. With the interconnection of everything, there will be newer and better ways for people to access emergency services, stay online, communicate with family and more. And as our Internet speed gets higher, our cities will get smarter.

According to the International Telecommunication Union, the first commercial 5G network is expected to go online in 2020. Over the next five years, about 1 billion people around the world will use a new generation of 5G technology. 5G technology is expected to boost economic output and increase both direct and indirect employment opportunities.
