In order to organize a file server in your local network through the Tenda router, you need to connect a flash card or hard drive to the USB port. According to the manufacturer, Tenda AC10U, on the example of which I am writing this manual, supports drives up to 2 TB.
Then in the browser we authorize under the administrator account at 191.168.0.1 and see on the main page that the device is connected to the USB port.
Clicking on it will open a window where you can safely eject the disc. Free and full storage space is also displayed.
Here, if you click on the "USB Application Center" button, you will get to the settings.
You can also access the USB disk management section from the menu - "USB application". And then click on the "File sharing" icon
We get to the detailed settings. There are two ways to distribute files over the network: via FTP server or Samba. DLNA functions are not yet available in the current firmware.
To configure FTP, you need to specify the encoding type and the port on which the server will be accessible. Generally speaking, there is no need to change anything here, as the default values are the optimal standard values.
Encoding - UTF-8
Port 21.
There is also a separate switch to allow access to files from the Internet. But for this purpose, the necessary conditions are the availability of a white external IP or the use of DDNS technology.
To connect to the FTP server, simply enter the address ftp://192.158.0.1:21. in your browser address bar. The login and password window will open. By default, the pair "admin-admin" is used as their default.
But that's the only way we're gonna be able to play the files. To download them there, you need to download a separate application. Like Filezilla.
What makes Samba different is that it is possible to work with the built-in operating system tools through a regular conductor. Or even make it a network drive. There is no need to configure anything here - addresses to access a USB flash drive will be specified separately for different operating systems:
Windows - \\ 192.168.0.1
MacOS - smb://192.168.0.1
Since I have a MacBook, I enter the second address in my browser and then enter the authorization data.
The Explorer window opens with all folders and files on the disc.
The last set of file access settings on the USB storage device is responsible for the levels. Initially, there is an "Administrator" account. That's where the password changes. She has permission to both read and write new documents. But we can create more users and give them limited read-only rights.
To apply changes in settings click on the "Save" button
You can also manage your USB flash drive settings from your mobile phone via Tenda WiFi. To do this, connect to the router network and log in to this application using the administrator password. And inside it we switch to the "Storage" tab (or "Storage" in the English version.
And we will see a list of folders and files on it.
They can be played right from here on your smartphone. If you step on the name of the stick, you will see information about the remaining disk space and the button for its safe removal
