Xbox Wireless Controller instead of your keyboard and mouse. You can connect the controller to a Windows computer using a USB cable, the Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows or Bluetooth.

Microsoft consoles have always been sold with the highest quality game controls, and with Xbox One it's no different. More refined than the Xbox 360 predecessor control, the Xbox One control is perfect for any and all games. So what do you think about being able to play on a PC with control of your Xbox instead of a mouse and keyboard?

We have good news: the control of Xbox One has support for the Windows system of your PC, and the configuration takes only a few minutes. Microsoft's official drivers allow any Xbox One controlE to work with supported PC games.

How to connect Xbox One control to your PC?

To help you play all your favorite PC games with your Xbox One controller, we've created this simple step-by-step. Before you start, you should know that there are three ways to do this: USB, wireless, or Bluetooth.

You should also make sure that your control is up to date with the latest firmware.

Connecting via USB

Use a micro USB cable to connect your Xbox One control to your PC. If you have a wireless control, just use the charging cable.

If you have a wired control, you can simply connect it, just like you would with your console.

Operating system specific limitations

Windows 10: You can have eight controls connected at the same time. If you use headsets, this number decreases to four, and with stereo headphones, only two controls can be connected.

Windows 7/8: You can only connect four controls at once. There is no headset support.

Notes

The auto-detect feature of this update may not work immediately if you connected the stereo headset adapter to the control when downloading a system update, or while the console was turned off. To resolve this, go to the Home screen and disconnect the adapter. Then reconnect the adapter to the controller.

You only need to update the control once to use the stereo headset adapter. However, if you plan to use the stereo headset adapter with other Xbox One controls, you must follow this process for each control. Also, periodically check for new updates, as Xbox is often sending in new features and control enhancements.

If you try to update a control that has already been updated, the system will check it and display the success screen in a few seconds to indicate that the control is already updated.

Wireless connection

1: Connect the Xbox wireless adapter to an open USB port on your PC. Complete the adapter setup process as described here.

2: Press the button with the Xbox logo on your control to turn it on.

3: Press the sync button on the top of the controller until the Xbox logo starts flashing (it's the small button on the right).

4: Press the small sync button on the adapter. Once the Xbox logo on the controller stops flashing and becomes solid, you're ready to play with this controller.

Bluetooth connection

Some Xbox One controls support Bluetooth for wireless connection. To find out if your control supports this connection, check that it has the Bluetooth connection button (see image below).

If you bought a new control after August 2016, there is a good chance it will have Bluetooth. See the images below as an example.

1: Navigate to Windows Settings and click Devices.

2: Click the Bluetooth Settings option to verify that Bluetooth is enabled. Stay in this menu.

3: Press the Guide button and then the sync button on your control. The logo should start flashing.

4: On your PC, choose "Add Bluetooth or other device" and click Bluetooth. Your PC will search for your control.

5: When the control appears, choose the Xbox Wireless Controller to finish the pairing process.

Update drivers via Device Manager

See how to manually check for updates in the Device Manager:

1.Go to Search in the Start Menu.

2. Enter Device Manager in the search box and select Device Manager. Windows may require an administrator password or confirmation of your choice.

3. Find and expand Microsoft Xbox One Control.

4. Right-click on Microsoft Xbox One Control and select Update Driver.

5. Select Automatically Search for Updated Software.

With Xbox Wireless or USB connections, you can connect four Xbox Wireless Controls at the same time. You will not receive audio from the controller, so there is no need to connect a headset. Bluetooth connections are not supported.

Were there any problems

If the control does not respond, try using another USB cable.

To use the Xbox Wireless Controller with the console after using it with a computer, re-sync the controller to the console. You can do this using the wireless sync button or a USB cable.
