How to display the battery level around the notch of your smartphone

The notch may seem useless to some, but a lot of phones have adopted it in their design. With the Notch Pie application, the notch may find a use that will save some people's lives: becoming a battery indicator! Here's how to do it.

We were talking to you a few weeks ago about Energy Ring, an application to add a battery indicator around the Samsung Galaxy S10, S10+ and S10e front camera. Here is its cousin, Notch Pie, developed by oddlyspaced, which allows you to do the same thing with the water drop-shaped notch of your smartphone! Here's how to use it.

Download Notch Pie

Notch Pie is not available on the Play Store, so you need to download the APK and install it from the XDA Lab or from a Google Drive link created by the developer.

Accepting authorizations

The application opens and asks to be able to access the smartphone's storage and overlay itself with other applications displayed on the screen, just accept this option in the window that opens.

The application then closes. Restart it and you are ready to configure your indicator.

Place the indicator

From the outset, the application prompts you to position the indicator using directional arrows. You will then have to move it to the notch as you wish.

Be careful, it is impossible to move the indicator quickly by keeping the arrows pressed, you have to press once to move it one pixel. Your years of Cookie Clicker will have served a purpose!

Define the limits of the indicator

Not all notches are the same size, so the limits of the size must be set so that the indicator can go around them correctly. To do this, it will be necessary once again to use the adjustment buttons proposed by the interface.

Again, the Cookie Clicker technique must be used.

Adjust the thickness

Finally, you must adjust the thickness of the indicator as you wish. This time, no need to press the button hundreds of times, the application offers four levels of thickness.

Enjoy,There you go, you've turned your notch into a battery indicator thanks to Notch Pie!

It should be noted that this application is announced compatible with the OnePlus 6T or Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 and all other terminals with a drop notch but on our Huawei P30 Pro on which we performed our test, the indicator is not fully adapted and does not fit the shape of the notch perfectly.

Not all water drops have the same shape and that is what makes this world beautiful. An option should therefore be added to modify the shape of the indicator to adapt to this type of notch.

With the application in beta, further improvements can be expected such as a faster way to move the notch when it is placed in the near future.
