When we want a friend or family member to hear a song or watch a video, if we're in a noisy place, we'll probably lend them our headphones. However, it is an unhygienic practice because of all the dirt and bacteria that accumulate in hearing aids.

Apple added a feature to iOS 13 to prevent this spread of germs: Audio Sharing. With this feature we can share the audio of what is playing on our smartphone or tablet with an extra pair of headphones from Cupertino.

Audio Sharing: compatible headphones and devices

First of all, we need to make sure that the headphones we have are compatible with the function. Luckily, if we have a relatively recent model I shouldn't talk about any problems. It works on both Apple AirPods and Beats.

● 1st and 2nd generation AirPods.

● Beats X

● Powerbeats3 Wireless

● Studio 3 Wireless

● Solo3 Wireless

● Powerbeats Pro

We also need to make sure that our iPhone or iPad supports Audio Sharing. As with headphones, any model of not very old smartphone or tablet should be compatible without any inconvenience.

● iPhone 8 and 8 Plus (or later)

● iPad Pro (second generation or later)

● iPad (fifth generation or later)

● iPad Air (3rd generation)

● iPad mini (5th generation)

● iPod touch (7th generation)

Audio Sharing: How to share audio from an iPhone or iPad with iOS 13 in more than one pair of headphones

There are several ways to share audio with someone else's headphones. One way is to place other AirPods near your iPhone or iPad and wait for the "share audio temporarily" window with our connected AirPods. After pressing the button and following the instructions, we will be able to share what we are listening to.

Another method of sharing audio is, if your friend or family member is already using the headset, to open the Control Center on your iPhone or iPad and click on the AirPlay "Now Playing" button. Underneath our AirPods or Beats should appear the "share audio" button, click it and place the other headphones close. The option will appear.

You can also access the Bluetooth settings on your iPhone or iPad with iOS 13, put both pairs of headphones in pairing mode, and pair the two AirPods or Beats headsets. To control the audio volume simply open the Control Center and press and hold the sound bar to adjust each pair of headphones independently.
