How to find your streaming account Freeloaders and deny them access

ByOleg Romanenko 2019-02-10 410

Netflix recently announced a price hike for using their streaming service. Hence, a logical conclusion is to share logins with friends, family or your neighbor. It is clear that it is very convenient to share your Hulu, Netflix or Spotify account. But some friends may secretly give your account to their friends without your knowledge or consent. From this moment begins the collection of freeloaders on your account.

 Hulu, Netflix or Spotify account

Shared accounts often use simple or easy to remember passwords, and many streaming services do not offer two-factor authentication. All this allows you to freely share your account, but also helps attackers to guess such simple passwords or find some data when hacking other accounts that you used with the same password. Hackers can use your accounts anywhere in the world. More impudent freeloaders can even make additional payments from your bank card or steal personal data specified in your profile.

In short, it is always useful to keep track of which devices are logged into the account or what actions are taken by your account. If you see a unknown IP address abroad - this may mean that the account has been hacked and misused by other people. How to check what is happening in your Netflix, Hulu and Spotify accounts? These instructions can also be applied to other similar services.

Netflix

Netflix gives you two ways to keep track of your account. On the Netflix main page, navigate to Account > Recent Device Streaming Activity to see a list of dates, times, IP addresses, locations, and types of devices that you connected to your account. If multiple profiles are configured on Netflix, this list applies to the entire account and includes all devices to which all profiles have access. You can also use Account > Manage Download Devices to find out which devices are allowed to download Netflix content. You can remove devices that should not have this privilege. Want to start over? Go to your Account > Exit all devices.

Another way to keep track of your Netflix is to go to Account > Viewing Activity and see who is watching what and from where. This list depends on the profile, so you need to switch between profiles if you want to check everything that is viewed in your account.

Hulu

In Hulu, go to Account > Manage Devices section to view a list of devices that have access to the account. The list shows the type of device and the date it was added, and also gives the opportunity to remove it from the list. It’s your account so you should know which devices are and are not authorized to be synced up with it.

To view and manage your devices:

● Head on over and log in to your Account page using your preferred web browser.

● Locate the "Your Account" section and click on Manage Devices. You can find next to "Watch Hulu on Your Devices".

● When the window pops up, it will contain a list of all of the currently registered devices attached to your Hulu account.

● Any that are unfamiliar or know for a fact shouldn’t be there, you can delete them by clicking Remove, located next to the specific device.

Spotify

In Spotify’s desktop and mobile apps you can also see a list of what was played on your account in the Recently Played section. On Spotify.com, if you go to Profile > Account > Offline Devicesyou will be able to view and delete devices which are connected. Just a simple action:

Profile > Account > Sign Out and it gives you the opportunity to disable all devices and start all over again. Just it.

Again, to share your account with others or not is at your own risk. But if you notice suspicious activity, then remove all devices that have access to your account and be sure to change the password to secure your account. Do periodic checks to make sure that there are no unnecessary devices in the list.
