How to format a hard drive windows 10

If you want to completely erase the data on your hard disk under Windows 10, you have to format the hard disk. We will show you the individual steps in these instructions.

Formatting the hard disk

Step 1

Press the [Windows] and [R] buttons simultaneously to open the Run command.

Step 2

Enter "diskmgmt.msc" here and confirm with "OK". Afterwards the disk management opens.

Step 3

Select the desired hard disk in the list and click on it with the right mouse button.

Step 4

Select the "Format" option and confirm the process by clicking the "OK" button.

The hard disk is then formatted. Depending on its size, this process can take from minutes to hours.

Format External Hard Drive

Step 1

Press the [Windows] and [E] buttons simultaneously to open the Explorer.

Step 2

Connect the external hard disk to your computer and locate it in Explorer.

Step 3

Right-click the hard disk and select the Format option.

Step 4

Click the "Start" button to format the external hard disk.
