The Screen Recorder is a new feature first introduced on MIUI 8 operating system. It’s totally free and can avoid safety issues that may happen on third-party screen recording APPs. Now, let’s show you the detailed steps about how to use the Xiaomi’s built-in Screen Recorder App to make a screen recording video.
Step 1. Open the Screen Recorder app on your Xiaomi phone. (You can find the Screen Recorder app in the Tools folder).
Step 2. Before starting the screen recording, you can perform some settings according to your needs via tapping the Settings icon on the top-right corner, and the setting options include resolution, video quality, sound source, fixed frame rate, etc.
Note: The higher resolution will offer you better video recording quality. However, it may affect the system performance, especially when you are recording a gameplay.
Step 3. After finishing the screen recording settings, you can go back to the home screen of the Screen Recorder App.
Step 4. Click the video recorder icon on the bottom-right corner. Then you will see a floating recording icon.
Step 5. Tap the icon to start the screen recording. Meanwhile, the icon will become gray and semitransparent.
Step 6. Then you can start operating your screen to show your live gameplay or on-screen tutorials.
Step 7. Once the operation finished, you just need to tap the floating icon to stop the screen recording.
Step 8. You can find the screen recording in your phone’s Gallery. Also, you can find it in Screen Recorder APP.
If you want to record the screen with audio, you can go to Screen Recorder app - Settings - Sound Source. Then it will offer you three sound options: Mute, Mic and System sounds:
● If you want to record your voice, you can select "Mic";
● If you want to record system voice, you can choose "System sounds";
● If you don’t want any voice during the screen recording, you can select "Mute".
Some users like Pocophone F1 reflect that there are no system sound options in the Sound Source settings of the Screen Recorder App on their phone. Yes, it may have something to do with the MIUI version. So, you’d better update your Xiaomi phones to the latest MIUI version like MIUI 10 or MIUI 11. To do this, just go to "Settings" - "About phone" - "System update" and click "Check for updates", and download the latest MIUI version.
After updating your phone to the latest MIUI version, you can reboot your phone. Then launch the Screen Recorder app to check if the system sound is available. However, if it still doesn’t have System Sounds option, you can download some third-party screen recording Apps from Google Play.
If the built-in Screen Recorder app on Xiaomi phone cannot meet your needs, or it doesn’t support the internal sound recording, you can also download some third-party screen recording apps for Google Play. The popular third-party screen recording apps include AZ Screen Recorder, SCR etc.
The AZ Screen Recorder app offers one action to start and stop recording, and it doesn’t require rooting your phone, and it features no time limit, no watermark and ads free. Another unique feature of the AZ Screen Recorder is that you can pause or resume the screen recording during the use.
The SCR Screen Recorder also enables you to record everything that happens on your phone. However, it requires root permissions and the free version only allows us to record videos of up to a maximum of 3 minutes.
