Now that legitimate sub-ohm tanks have officially arrived on the market, you can now vape at sub-ohm levels without having to resort to DIY or individual tinkering. Using a lower ohm atomizer coil will result in:

In short, sub-ohm vaping involves a resistance value less than 1.0 Ω; however, the standard resistance level is generally more than 1.0 Ω.
