Tech showdown: Xbox One vs Xbox 360 controller - fight!

ByGB Blog Official 2018-07-03 10365

If console controllers were guns, which one would you prefer? We look at two of the most iconic controllers out there: the Xbox 360 and the Xbox One.

When the Xbox 360 launched in 2005, it was a cutting edge, next-gen console that combined crisp graphics with motion-sensing technology.

The Xbox One, launched in late 2013, is the latest and eighth generation of the Xbox console family.

While there isn't a revolutionary change between the Xbox 360 and Xbox One controllers, Microsoft made some small, iterative changes that makes the Xbox One wireless controller have the edge.

Here's our Xbox One and Xbox 360 games console comparison review.

1. Design

The first thing that comes to mind when we do such comparisons is the physical shape and size.

The Xbox One controller conforms to a slimmer, more linear design language as opposed to the bulky curved 360 one. The weight is about the same, but more towards the center so as to rest comfortably in the hand.

2. Battery

One of the less talked about changes is the inclusion of a micro USB port on the back of the Xbox One controller, basically to charge the on-board rechargeable AA batteries.

It's claimed that this takes half as much time to recharge compared to Xbox 360, thus saving precious gaming time.

3. Analog sticks

The Xbox One stick is looser, has an outer rubber grip, and a curved center to accommodate the player's finger. The four dots that got in the way are now gone.

4. D-Pad

With the Xbox One controller, Microsoft has also revamped the D-Pad, making it more "clicky", and generally more responsive better for your old school arcade games. The D-pad on the Xbox One is a simple plus sign-shaped D-pad with four defined clicking areas. This is distinct from the wobbly D-pad found on the 360 controller which made it confusing when making a large number of fast inputs.

Apart from the use of AA batteries, we think the Xbox One controller has surpassed all expectations. It's better looking, lighter and more functional, which is pretty much what every gamer wants from a console controller.
