AF and AF-S are autofocus lenses, except that AF lenses do not have motors, while AF-S lenses have ultrasonic motors.
For a SLR digital camera without a focusing motor, the AF lens can not automatically focus, but the AF-S lens can automatically focus.
As the name implies, a single autofocus is half-pressed by the shutter to focus. This is the most basic focus mode, in which the basic steps of shooting are: taking the scene, composing, half pressing the shutter, focusing, shooting, so that a picture is taken. In DSLRs, cameras labeled AF-S, are also written as Smuraf, or ONE SHOT. Please note that the AF-S here should not be confused with the AF-S in the Nikon lens. The S in the camera represents a single autofocus Single, while the S in the Nikon lens means Silent, (AF-S means an autofocus lens with an ultrasonic motor, so the focus is very quiet).
Generally speaking, a single autofocus is sufficient for common shooting, such as travel commemorative photos, macro close-ups, and portrait landscape shots. On the other hand, photography on the stage, sports and other themes is suitable for the use of continuous autofocus.
