There are generally AP (access point) mode, Router (wireless routing) mode, Repeater (trunk) mode, Bridge (bridging) mode and Client (client) mode on TP-Link mini-wireless routers, but many users are not clear about the difference between these modes, which will be described in detail below.

Note: on some models of TP-Link mini-wireless routers, there are only three modes: AP (access point) mode, Router (wireless routing) mode, and Repeater (trunk) mode.

AP (access point) mode

AP (access point) mode, only need to plug a network cable that can access the Internet into the 192.168.1.253 router, without any configuration to access the Internet; but it is necessary to note that the wireless network on the 192.168.1.253 router is not encrypted, it is recommended to set a wireless password.

Applicable places: such as guesthouses, hotels or other places that provide a network cable to access the Internet.

Router mode

In Router mode, the 192.168.1.253 router is equivalent to an ordinary wireless broadband router; you need to connect devices such as ADSL Modem (cats or optical cats to configure.

Applicable place: it is used when the user has handled the broadband service by himself.

Repeater (relay) mode

Repeater (relay) mode, the 192.168.1.253 router will establish a wireless connection with a wireless router that can access the Internet, which is used to amplify the wireless signal on the wireless router that can access the Internet; note: the name of the amplified wireless signal is the same as that of the original wireless router.

Applicable places: there is a wireless router that can access the Internet, but the wireless signal of the wireless router is wired and can be used when the wireless signal can cover a wider range.

Bridge (bridging) mode

Repeater (relay) mode, the 192.168.1.253 router will establish a wireless connection with a wireless router that can access the Internet wirelessly, which is used to amplify the wireless signal on the wireless router that can access the Internet; note: the name of the amplified wireless signal is different from that of the original wireless router.

Applicable places: there is a wireless router that can access the Internet, but the wireless signal of the wireless router is wired and can be used when the wireless signal can cover a wider range.

Client (client) mode

Client (client) mode, the 192.168.1.253 router is equivalent to a wireless network card, which is used to receive wireless signals from other wireless routers; the computer can only be connected to the 192.168.1.253 router through the network cable.

Applicable places: there is a wireless signal nearby, and the user knows the password of the wireless signal, and the user's desktop computer wants to connect the wireless signal to the Internet.

Note: Repeater (Relay mode and Bridge (bridging) mode are connected to a wireless router that can access the Internet wirelessly to amplify the wireless signal on the wireless router; the difference is that the name of the amplified wireless signal in Repeater (Relay) mode is the same as that on the previous router, while the name of the amplified wireless signal in Bridge (bridging) mode is different from that on the previous router.
