Eventually, the video cable is loosely attached to the monitor or graphics card. This means that no signal can arrive and the screen remains black. Therefore, the first step is to check the connection between the graphics card and the monitor. For safety, you can also check that the monitor power cord is properly seated.
The video cable may also be defective. To rule this out, you can replace it - if a replacement is available.
In addition to the main graphics card, PCs often have an additional graphics card integrated on the mainboard. If this is the case with your computer, connect the video cable to the other graphics card on the mainboard to see if you can get a picture like this.
Under certain circumstances, the problem may also be that the graphics card is no longer properly connected to the motherboard. Open the PC and try to gently push the graphics card into its holder. Do not use force! If you are unsure, contact friends or acquaintances who are familiar with the inside of PCs.
If the other tricks do not help, there is probably a defect in the graphics card or monitor. To check this, proceed as follows:
If you have a replacement graphics card, replace it with the other one. If this solves the problem, the graphics card is probably defective.
If the graphics card is OK, you can test another monitor, if available. You can also use a TV set or beamer as a test screen with the right connection cable - for newer smart TVs, e.g. via HDMI cable.
What to do if there is a defect?
Basically, the following applies: If there is a defect in the graphics card or monitor, always contact your dealer. Do not attempt to repair the unit yourself! Within the warranty period, defective articles are repaired free of charge or even completely replaced. Outside the warranty period or in the event of personal negligence, the manufacturer will usually make you an estimate of costs.
