Since the LG G7 and the launch of its ThinQ range, LG has regularly introduced a button dedicated to smart assistants on its smartphones. In concrete terms, we press this additional button positioned on the edge and this activates a Google Assistant function (or another artificial intelligence).
Proud of this hardware shortcut, Google announced at MWC 2019 that it will be integrated on many smartphones from now on. LG continues on this path with its LG V50 ThinQ, but the South Korean is no longer alone. Xiaomi has also been there and its Mi Mix 3 5G also adopts this side button - just like the classic version of the Mi Mix 3. This is also the case with the very promising Xiaomi Mi 9.
In addition, HMD provides this shortcut on its Nokia 3.2 and Nokia 4.2 at the entry level.
The Mobile World Congress is still a show full of announcements and we can probably expect to see the Google Assistant button interfere with other smartphones that will be unveiled during the show. Otherwise, according to Google, this growth is expected to continue in the coming months.
It should also be noted that Google Assistant will be integrated into Android Messages.
