Amazon has already sold "several tens of millions" of Fire 7 worldwide, according to its own figures. The small 7-inch device is thus the mail-order company's best-selling tablet along with the Fire HD 8 and the Fire HD 10. Now Amazon has revised the Fire 7 in the 2019 version. COMPUTER BILD knows the details.
Optically, not much has changed: Even the Fire 7 (2019) has a 192 x115x9.6 millimeter handy format. Photos, videos and eBooks are shown on the 286 gram light tablet on a display with a diagonal of 7 inches (17.8 centimeters). Chance missed: The screen reproduces content like its predecessors Fire 7 (2017) and Fire 7 (2015) with only 1024x600 pixels. Therefore, the new version should not display as much detail as devices with Full HD displays (1920x1200 pixels).
Amazon has given the Fire 7 a more powerful processor according to their own statements, but doesn't give an exact model name. A quad-core CPU serves as the drive, whose computing units work with a maximum of 1.3 gigahertz if required. The processor of the 2017 model was also a quad-core, which operated with an identical clock rate. The main memory is still only 1 gigabyte in size and should therefore slow down the speed of many apps and websites opened in parallel.
Good: The smallest version now offers 16 instead of 8 gigabytes of memory for apps, photos and videos, the largest version 32 instead of 16 gigabytes. If that's not enough, you can expand the memory by a maximum of 512 gigabytes using a microSD card. Another, but fundamental change: Besides the big Fire HD 10 (2017) and the Fire HD 8 (2018), the Fire 7 2019 is now the third tablet that language assistant Alexa has on board. She works in "Hands Free" mode if desired. This means that you don't have to press a button, but simply say "Alexa" as known from the echo speakers, ask a question or a task - the Fire 7 (2019) then implements it.
Amazon offers the Fire 7 2019 like its predecessor additionally in a Kids Edition. Technically, the device is identical to the normal version, but the manufacturer includes a thick rubber cover ("bumper"). This is intended to protect the tablet from a technical knockout in the event of a fall. Included in the package is a one-year membership in Amazon FreeTime Unlimited. According to Amazon, the child-resistant platform offers access to more than 5,000 age-appropriate books, videos, learning apps, games - and thousands of manually selected websites as well as parental controls. If the device breaks down despite its protective rubber cover, Amazon will exchange it for a new device free of charge for two years.
