Speaking to the Chinese press, the product manager and PR director missed out on some very juicy details about the price and market range of the new 7nm GPUs, which aim to repeat Ryzen's success in the CPU sector and relaunch AMD in the video card market as well.
Apparently, the new AMD Navi will aim to replace the RTX 2060 and 2070 in the PCs of enthusiasts, thus establishing itself in the mid-high end of the market. In particular, the company of Sunnyvale is working on two versions, called Pro and XT, at a price of $ 399 and $ 499 respectively.
During the interview Sapphire's manager said that the performance of the XT variants would be higher than that of the 2070; a statement that gives hope, but to make a judgment we will obviously have to wait to touch the cards.
The Pro variant would be a "middle ground" between the RTX 2060 and the RTX 2070 from Nvidia. The 50 dollars more than a 2060 would be, according to Sapphire, justified by much higher performance.
The Sapphire representative also wanted to deny the rumours that, as mentioned at the beginning, saw a presentation during the E3 in Los Angeles: in fact, according to him Navi will be presented by Lisa Su on the stage of Computex on May 27, during the opening conference.
During the interview, the product manager also unbalanced himself on Navi's arrival on the market, which, according to him, is scheduled for 7 July. This information is very interesting and, given the source from which it comes, can be considered reliable, but until we have an official announcement from AMD we can not take anything for granted.
Sapphire also confirmed that AMD Navi will not have dedicated ray tracing hardware, but this particular technology will be present on the new architecture planned for 2020. The manager went on to suggest that AMD will probably not create Navi variants for the enthusiast band, so the flagship model will remain the current Radeon VII.
Speaking instead of custom versions, Sapphire said that it is actively working on some versions of AMD Navi, one of which is already complete: according to what was stated, it will be called Toxic and will be liquid cooled. There are no custom versions of the Radeon VII.
