So far we have seen synthetic benchmarks of the new AMD Ryzen 3000 Series processors. These data do not reflect the reality in games, because in this type of benchmark, the more cores, the higher the performance. The data is good for streamers, editors and the like. Now a benchmark of the Ryzen 9 3900X and Ryzen 7 3700X has been filtered in games and the thing does not look good.
The Ryzen 7 3700X has 8 cores and 16 threads, while the Ryzen 9 3900X has 12 cores and 24 threads. The thing is that in games not so much the cores as the threads and frequency. So having more cores to play doesn't guarantee having more FPS.
Game performance data isn't very good, but there's something that doesn't add up. These benchmarks are under 720p resolution (1280×720) although for the benchmarks they have used an NVIDIA GTX 1080 Ti. Either those who have done the benchmarks do not have much idea or is a trolleada of some kind. Let's be cautious, just in case.
We see how the AMD Ryzen 7 3700X and Ryzen 9 3900X are behind the Core i7-7700K in the FarCry 5. Note that the Ryzen use memories to a DDR4 @ 3200MHz memory, while the Intel processor uses DDR4 @ 2400MHz memory.
Wolfenstein II and Rise of the Tomb Raider offer the same performance data. Assassin's Creed: Origins offers better performance because it would take better advantage of the cores. The games that make the most of the processor cores will benefit, but they are the least.
With regard to the synthetic benchmarks of these AMD Ryzen, as we have said, it does surpass the competing processors. But of course, these benchmarks favor more the number of cores and threads than the frequency. That's why the difference is so noticeable.
On the consumption side, the AMD Ryzen processors are quite on par with the Intel processors. Although AMD has made the leap to 7nm, it seems that they are not as efficient as 14nm Intel processors. The Core i9-9900K consumes between 40-50W more than the Ryzen 7 3700X. Both have 8 cores and 16 threads, but the difference in power consumption is minimal.
