Android and Chrome OS: Google is developing functions to connect its two OS

Currently, Google offers two separate systems with Android for smartphones and Chrome OS for computers, with tablets able to use both OSes. In order to harmonize its ecosystem, the firm would seek to offer functionalities common to both its software.

Google publishes two operating systems with very different functions and uses: Android and Chrome OS. While the first is mainly suitable for smartphones, the second is aimed primarily at laptops and tablets, like the latest Pixel Slate.

While it is currently possible to backup data from one Android smartphone to another when recovering a new device, unfortunately this is not currently the case between the two systems. To improve things, Google would therefore work to improve the interactions between its two OS.

The Chrome Story site has thus identified new features in the source code of Chromium, the open source version of Google's browser. Grouped under the name "OneChrome", these features aim to use common functions on the PC and Android versions of Chrome. Some of these features that should be integrated directly into Chrome regardless of the system include: "calling a phone number", "sharing text from Android to any supported clipboard", or "end-to-end encryption". Another feature is to synchronize the Wi-Fi network password from one device to another.

It is not yet known when these features will be natively integrated into Google Chrome, Android or Chrome OS. The idea for Google seems to be to simplify the use of both systems by creating more bridges between a computer under Chrome OS and a smartphone under Android. Thus, by clicking on a phone number on your browser, it should be possible to call the number directly from your smartphone.
