Apple Mac Pro is the world's fastest cheese grater

At the start of its developer conference WWDC (until June 7) in San Jose, California, Apple unveiled a new Mac Pro - a super computer into which the iPhone company has stuffed everything that is currently technically possible.

The eye-catching case consists of a stainless steel frame and a removable aluminum shell. Warm air is carried out of the computer by a striking grid pattern. A design that made the social media very cheerful: pictures of cheese slices made the rounds ...

Inside, Apple has built in an Intel Xeon processor with up to 28 cores, up to 1.5 terabytes of RAM and, according to Apple, the world's most powerful graphics card. Even double if desired. Probably the fastest cheese grater in the world ...

Who needs so much power? Such a monster computer would naturally be bored in any normal office. It is intended for professional users who, for example, want to produce 3D films or edit video scenes in 8K resolution.

At the edge of the WWDC, Apple demonstrated in a so-called Pro Studio what the new computer is capable of. The motto was: look, marvel, but please don't touch.

They showed how film music can be composed and arranged with the help of the Mac Pro. Where, for example, five interconnected computers were needed to provide a composer with the necessary sound samples for his work, a single Mac Pro will now suffice. The same applies to arranging the finished recordings: the Mac Pro replaces the power of four networked computers.

The same high performance was also achieved when creating 3D animations or editing hundreds of high-resolution HDR photos or video material. The results could be seen on Apple's new Pro Display XDR, a 32-inch screen with 6K retina resolution (6016 x 3384 pixels).

3D animations with Maya can create the Mac Pro almost in real time, shows HDR images on the Pro Display XDR.

That this impressive technology is not intended for home use can be seen from the price. The entry-level version of the Mac Pro already costs 5999 US dollars. For the Pro Display XDR, 4999 dollars are due and those who give the display a stand pay another 999 dollars for the Pro Stand.

When the devices go on sale in autumn, Apple will certainly reveal the prices in euros - and they will probably be at least as high.
