So far, with the exception of the original Apple Watch, each Apple Watch has been released during Apple's fall launch in September, usually after the debut of the new iPhone phone. After all, from the nature of the product, it is an accessory to iPhone, so it makes sense that its release and update follow the pace of iPhone. So unsurprisingly, the Apple Watch Series 5 is likely to be released in September, also after Apple introduces the new iPhone.
Throughout history, Apple Watch prices have been varied. The initial Apple Watch was $349 and $399, respectively (38mm and 42mm specifications). Apple then launched both the Apple Watch Series 1 and Series 2, which replaced the original series with a low price of $249 / $269. the Series 2 basically maintained the price gradient, starting at $369 / $399. The price of Series 3 has changed, with the GPS version costing as little as $329 / $359, while the cellular data version adds $70 to the price. The Series 4 then pushed up the price of the series again, this time at $399 / $429, starting at $499 for the honeycomb version.
There is no fixed pattern in the price of the Apple Watch, and it is difficult to predict how Apple will price the new Apple Watch. Apple has been raising the price of its watches recently. If Apple wants to adjust its price strategy appropriately from 2019, a range of new products is likely to lower prices.
At current normal levels, we speculate that the Apple Watch Series 5 will keep the price released by the previous generation at around $399 / $429, fluctuating by $20 and adding $70 to the cellular version. After the launch of the new product, the Series 4 will remain on the market in the same way as in the past.
Apple has just updated the design of the Apple Watch, and on the Series 4 we see a larger dial, a thinner body, a more rounded corner, and a new crown. The old strap is still suitable for the Series 4, but in fact, because the Series 4 dial is slightly larger (40mm and 44mm), it is not a perfect match for the old strap (38mm and 42mm), which makes the old user feel a little stuffy. We don't think Apple is likely to change its design that quickly, so Series 5 basically follows the look of Series 4, but there will be some minor differences, such as subtle changes in thickness and crown / button.
Apple has brought a lot of new features to the new system, watchOS 6, which, of course, applies to Series 5. But what is difficult to predict is what new hardware features the new Apple Watch will have. Because the new generation of Apple Watch always comes with some unique health features, such as Series 4 with ECG and fall alarm, we expect Series 5 to continue to be a little bit of a surprise.
So what new features will be added this time? The more concentrated rumour is sleep tracking, and according to Bloomberg, Apple is seeking to include sleep tracking in its watch, something its competitors are already doing, but according to the report, Independent sleep tracking needs to be matched with 2020 to appear. In addition, the function of testing blood glucose levels and blood pressure has been mentioned, but for the time being, they are only in the laboratory phase, and they may appear on later models, or will never be available.
We should also focus on the update of the Apple Watch chip, each new Apple Watch with a new system chip (SoC), to provide faster performance and better battery life. Our higher expectations for the new watch also come from the, Apple Watch Series 5's Apple self-developed chip, which may be called the S5, which is further optimized for 64-bit dual-core design, resulting in strong running speed and sensor processing power, of course. It is also bound to make Apple Watch more independent.
