The exterior is "very ASUS", with an impeccable finish in brushed aluminum with the typical pattern of Zenbooks that evoke different shades of blue depending on the impact of light on the surface.
A highlight of the ASUS Zenbook Pro Duo is the opening system, which makes the stand to raise a few degrees the keyboard, which is always thankful in a laptop because it will provide a more comfortable typing position, a more ergonomic display as well as more adequate cooling to allow the passage of air under the equipment.
Despite the thickness and size of the ASUS Zenbook Pro Duo, we found the connectivity of the equipment to be poor. On the right side we can find the audio output, a USB-C Thunderbolt 3 port (DisplayPort) as well as a USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type A.
Already on the left side is the power input for a huge proprietary charger, an HDMI 2.0 output and a second USB 3.1 Gen 2 type A port.
Wireless connectivity is well covered with Bluetooth 5.0 and WiFi 6 with Gig+ (802.11ax).
As for the webcam, it includes IR with Windows Hello support and the microphone system is prepared for use with both Cortana and Alexa. And the sound system is certified by Harman Kardon but is not above average in either sharpness or full power.
In reality the options were not many because the cooling system for the second screen already covered much of the two sides.
This side cooling system with fans is almost always in operation if we have the ASUS ScreenPad. It is true that it hardly introduces noise but both the lower screen surface and the sides where the hot air is extracted are uncomfortable areas when they are heated after a long period of use of the equipment.
The main screen of the ASUS Zenbook Pro Duo is a 15.6 inch HDR touch panel with a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels, with reduced but still present frames, 16:9 format and a very high quality. It is a 100000:1 contrast panel, with high brightness, amazing sharpness and 100% DCI-P3 color space.
The second screen occupies just half of the area that is usually used for the keyboard and touchpad. It has 4K resolution (specifically 3840x1100 pixels) and an equivalent diagonal of 14 inches although in a longer format, which makes it better used with several applications open in it than exclusively with video playback, for example.
Unlike the top one, it has a matte finish, which, from the usual viewing angle, causes it to lose some strength and visualization. It's logically tactile.
The second screen can not only be useful for creative tasks such as video editing, photo or video. A simple user, if he wanted to invest in such a curious team, could make the most of it.
In the ASUS Zenbook Pro Duo, the keyboard occupies only the lower half of all the space normally allocated to this element. That design that places the keyboard where the trackpad and wrist rests usually go makes it look more compact, but it's actually a full keyboard layout.
The strange keyboard layout can be solved with a removable wrist rest, but not with the touchpad.
ASUS solves it in part by including a removable wrist rest that greatly improves the experience, so it is almost essential to have it in place when we are working continuously with it or if we have this equipment enabled as a main device at home or the workplace.
With this arrangement of the screen and keyboard, the touchpad is banished to the right side of the keyboard, just where a full keyboard would find the numeric zone.
The performance is consistent with its excellent interior, perhaps oversized for the main purpose that we see this computer is none other than being a laptop that replaces a desktop for creative tasks and where the productivity of a second screen is key.
That portable desktop positioning is so for two main reasons: the need for a mouse and the addition of a wrist rest for the keyboard if you want to work in long productive sessions.
But without a doubt the best with the ASUS Zenbook Pro Duo has been given to us by the combination of its two screens, both of great quality, and that, with still some way to go in compatibility with applications, offers a productive and addictive way of working.
