In April 2018, Xiaomi launched for the most gamer public with its first mobile focused on videogames, the Black Shark. It was a device with an aesthetics far removed from what we were accustomed to seeing in the market and high-end specifications. Months later came the Black Shark Helo, which stayed in China, and now we have the second version, baptized as Black Shark 2.

The firm maintains the aggressive design characteristic of gaming mobiles but raises the level of specifications. Thus, we find the latest in mobile platforms from Qualcomm, up to 12 GB RAM in its most advanced version and a huge AMOLED screen of more than six inches. Let's get to know him better.

Aggressive, backlit rear design

Starting from the outside, we find an aggressive design finished in two colors: black and silver. We'll talk about the front next, but it's worth stopping at the back and the design. In it we find the logo of the brand, some subtle brightness in the side slits and the double camera next to the LED flash.

We don't have a headphone jack, but it is compensated with a double stereo speaker placed on the vertical ends of the device and three microphones focused on gaming, two of which are used to cancel the background noise and one to pick up the user's voice. In relation to that, the company has managed to add a system that eliminates the echo of the speakers when several people play in a team in person, known as squeaking.

The Xiaomi Black Shark 2 is capable of converting games to HDR in real time.
In addition, the Black Shark 2 is able to recognize different scenes, weapons, movements and blows and vibrate according to them. The idea is to offer a "4D gaming experience", so that when the user shoots in a video game, the mobile vibrates in one way or another depending on the weapon being used. To this are added the sensitive and customizable edges, so that the player can squeeze the frames of the device to do actions, as if they were triggers.

As for the front, the firm has not opted for notch or holes, but we still have frames up and down, but not too wide. The screen is a 6.39 inch AMOLED with FullHD+ resolution and 19.5:9 aspect ratio, which translates into 2,340 x 1,080 pixels and a density of 403 dpi. It comes equipped with DC Light-dimmer technology, which according to the brand, reduces eye damage, and HDR Gaming View, which converts games to HDR in real time.

The latest from the latest under the hood

We already know what Black Shark 2 looks like on the outside, so let's open the hood and take a look inside. As a gaming mobile that is, the company has not skimped when it comes to introducing the latest in components, which means we have an engine powered by the Snapdragon 855 processor at a maximum speed of 2.84 GHz and the Adreno 640 GPU. It comes with 6, 8 or 12 GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 128 or 256 GB of internal storage, depending on the version chosen.

The screen response time is 43.5 ms, although it has not been specified whether the screen has a refresh rate of 60 or 120 Hz. To enhance the overall experience, Black Shark has added a liquid cooling system they have called "Direct Touch Liquid Cooling System 3.0". In short, this system covers all the areas that heat up most and reduce the temperature of the base plate. We also have a maximum performance mode that increases processor speed and allows us to maintain a stable high SPF rate. When activated, the green lines on the back light up.

On the other hand, the Black Shark 2 can be turned into a kind of Nintendo Switch using accessories. The first are the GamePads 3.0, which are attached to the sides and allow you to play with physical buttons. The second is a host mode which, using an HDMI cable, allows the mobile phone to be connected to a TV or monitor and the mobile games to be played on a larger screen. The third is a cooling case that reduces the temperature of the phone by 10 degrees in just 10 seconds.

The battery is 4,000 mAh and offers, according to the company, "intense gaming sessions of up to five hours. It has a fast charge of 27W, enough to get 30 more minutes of gaming in five minutes and an hour in 10 minutes.

Finally, in relation to the photographic section, the company has not placed too much emphasis on it (since it is not its main argument as has already become apparent), but it should be noted that the rear camera has two sensors, while the front has a single lens.

The first consists of a 12-megapixel main sensor with f/1.75 aperture, LED flash and six lenses, as well as PDAF, HDR, portrait mode and artificial intelligence.
