Chuwi AeroBook overview: available in a slim design

BySigismondo Eisenhower 2019-07-30 1107

Chuwi technology is valued for its quality, price and opportunity balance. The new Chuwi AeroBook, a thin, lightweight, metal case with a Core M processor, SSD and passive cooling, is now available.

First impression

When closed, the laptop resembles a tablet with a keyboard cover. Small dimensions (only one centimetre wider than A4 sheet) and a thickness of 1.5 cm. There's almost no feeling of an ultrabook in the backpack. It is also easy to carry in a handbag - its weight allows. Chuwi design is sure to be appreciated by lovers of minimalism. Chuwi AeroBook is in a dark grey color scheme and is not disturbed by any colorful details. Anodized magnesium-aluminum cover does not shrink from the outside and is practically free of backlash when twisted. The display hinge is recessed into the main housing.

There are no claims to the quality of the assembly. Unless the keyboard's a little bit of a pushover in the middle. The speakers don't sound quiet, but they don't sound too loud - so you can watch videos in quiet environments right away. The bottom panel features rubberized feet and an SSD compartment cover. There are no ventilation grilles, the laptop has passive cooling.

Chuwi AeroBook is equipped with a 1920 x 1080 dot IPS matrix with thin frames on the sides and top. The thickness of the frame allowed to fit a 13.3-inch screen into the body, the dimensions of which had previously been correlated with 12-inch solutions. The display isn't matte, it's shining. With the angles of review the situation is not bad, as we can expect from a laptop price of about $ 518.

Note the good color coverage, as well as the use of full lamination technology. It removes the air layer between the matrix and the glass covering it. This ultimately makes the image very realistic, as if it were displayed on the surface of the screen itself. Brightness reserve is good, it's quite comfortable to work.

Keyboard and trackpad

Ease of text input is one of the most important parameters for an ultrabook. The new Chuwi keyboard is made of black plastic with a coating that eventually collects fingerprints. They're easy to clean, though. The keys have a very comfortable size, they are quite large when compared to the average keyboard. With a stroke of about 1.5 millimetres, they don't make a fuss when printing quickly, so they don't make a fuss about what people around them appreciate.

The keyboard has two levels of illumination and is controlled by the F6 key. An interesting point: the additional functions on the keys of the F series are assigned as the main functions and vice versa. To activate, for example, a page update by pressing F5, you need to additionally press Fn. It's peculiar, but it's not hard to get used to it.

The trackpad provides reliable control, clearly recognizes gestures and clicks. It takes a habit to hit the left and right mouse buttons the first time - they're pretty small. The trackpad surface is rough - this is good, so there is less chance of erroneous input. In general, ergonomics can be estimated at five with a small minus.

Autonomy, performance

AeroBook confidently copes with office tasks: it is convenient to work with the text independently and in a network, nothing hangs up and does not slow down. Taking into account not the newest Intel Core M3 processor and not particularly high-performance graphics card, it is clear that the notebook is obviously not for top games. It's gonna launch some popular hit five years ago, of course. But in order to get a sane fps value, you have to lower the graphics level or even the screen resolution. In benchmarks and under load Chuwi warms up, the fixed peak index - 65 degrees, it is a good result.

The speed of operation depends on the drive as well. Chuwi AeroBook's engineering sample is now available in a M.2 terabyte SSD. In serial models, according to the information of our forum users, the total amount of built-in memory is 256 gigabytes (replaceable SSD 128 gigabytes plus 128 GB of soldered on the eMMC memory board). In addition, serial samples are equipped with a USB Type-C connector. The official website supports fast Power Delivery 2.0 charging standard.

Chuwi AeroBook

Very pleased with the autonomy of the new product. The built-in 38 watt-hour battery in a mixed text and web browsing scenario (keyboard backlight off) runs out of power in 7 hours. And that's in "optimal performance" mode. If desired, the operating time can be extended by another hour and a half.

Chuwi AeroBook is a good example of how not to underestimate the products of Chinese brands. Miniature but robust laptop gives good autonomy together with adequate performance. Just right for office applications and walks around the network. The manufacturer is known in the home market and has managed to establish itself among our compatriots.

It's clear that AeroBook isn't a gaming device, but users will appreciate the rugged case, the thin frame, and the decent keyboard. It's at least a curious option for your money.
