COMPUTEX 2019- SteelSeries released Apex Pro keyboards

The company's new OmniPoint mechanical keyboards support automatic sensitivity with variable actuation.

Strong" key, "light" key: Steelseries has developed new mechanical keyboards capable of automatically changing the pressure required to register a press according to your activities, for play or work, and has used them in its new Apex Pro and Apex Pro TKL keyboards.

Faster keyboards

OmniPoint keyboards use magnetic sensors to determine the activation point, which the company says also makes them faster. A magnetic field should react faster than a physical mechanism: it is similar to that of opto-mechanical keyboards, such as HP's Omen X sequencer. Sensitivities can be adjusted between 0.4 (shortest) and 3.6 mm (longest), which corresponds to a fairly wide range.

You can even assign different sensitivity levels to different keys: if you need the ZQSD keys to be extremely responsive for navigation in a game and you often accidentally press the SHIFT key, you can assign a low activation of the ZQSD keys, and a higher one to the pressed SHIFT key.

The process is very simple, whether you use the SteelSeries Engine software or the integrated OLED display on the keyboard. This pretty OLED display, mounted above the number keys, even shows in real time how far each key is pressed and whether it has yet reached the operating point.

Simplified configuration

The keyboards also have a small OLED display that can display customizations and allow them to be configured without having to use the company's software utility. It also allows you to view notifications from messaging applications (Discord) or Spotify.

The Apex Pro will cost $200. The switches will be available in Cherry MX Brown, Red, or Blue, and will be available on June 11 (the first day of E3!). The Apex Pro TKL will cost $180 when shipped in the fall.
