In early April, Kotaku's news editor Jason Schreier published a special article in which he brought to light problems in the development of the Anthem game in BioWare, which ultimately affected the quality of the game that resulted in disappointment for many. You can see a summary of that article here.
After the article was published, several ex-employees of the Polish studio CD Projekt RED approached Schreier to inform him of the bad working conditions and how chaotic the development of the game has been. One of those former employees states that there were many parallels with the development of Anthem, which would include excessive working hours and changing the direction of the game in general. Besides, the study would be going through financial problems.
We all know that the development of Cyberpunk 2077 began when the studio finished the award-winning The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. But according to the heads of the study, they have not been so many problems and the co-founder himself Marcin Iwinski, commented that they have an economic reserve that does not cause them problems. In addition, it is normal that they have suffered problems and delays because they have had to change technology, which is a "nightmare for most companies.
Iwinski also clarified that they are always looking for a better work environment for their employees. He admitted that there were overtime hours before delivering the E3 2018 demo, but now things are quiet.
So it all boils down to found versions of which players will find themselves in the middle of and we'll know if the effort devoted to it will pay off once we can play it. Because if things are really as bad as they were in Anthem, it could cause controversy.
Hopefully the next few weeks in E3 2019 will reveal its release date.
