Due to Mavic Pro and Mavic Air, has become a hegemon of the market and is now responsible for the sales of more than 72% of devices in the consumer drones market. DJI drones are almost incredibly technically advanced, offer great quality recordings, and at the same time are trivially easy to use thanks to great software.
Unfortunately, drones are quite expensive, so many people will be happy to hear that a much cheaper Mavic Mini is coming.
DJI Mavic Mini has not been officially launched yet, but the manufacturer has announced the release of the undisclosed new device tomorrow (13 August 2019). We are sure to see the new gimbal Osmo Mobile 3 on it, but there is no certainty about the drone. The premiere of Mavic Mini may take place tomorrow or at the next event in September.
What about the price? DJI Mavic Mini is supposed to cost only $399. This is a much lower price level than in the case of Mavic Air (the official price is 799 USD) and Mavic 2 Pro/Zoom (1499/1249 USD).
We got to know the shape, size and appearance. The drone will be really small, because when unfolded it will fit into the body of 20 x 20 cm, and the distance between the engines (diagonally) will be about 27 cm.
According to @OsitaLV announcement, DJI Mavic Mini will be equipped with a 4K camera placed on a triaxial gimbal, the same as in Mavic Air. It will have 12 megapixels on a 1/2.3-inch CMOS sensor. The drone will weigh only 350 g - 80 g less than the super-light Mavic Air.
The drone will use "enhanced Wi-Fi", a solution known from Mavic Air, for connectivity. It has a smaller range than the OcuSync used in the Mavic Pro series, but this connectivity is sufficient to control the drone and to transmit images from the camera up to a distance of 500m.
On the sensor side, the Mavic Mini has two obstacle sensors (in front of and below the Mavic Mini), although there are no obstacle sensors on the back or sides. This means you need to look out for trees and branches when flying.
The first DJI Mavic Pro was continued in two variants. On the other hand, DJI Mavic Air has been on the market for almost two years and its direct successor is not visible on the horizon. The announced DJI Mavic Mini could replace both Mavic Air and the cheaper, ageing Spark in the offer.
That's not really good news. Mavic Air turned out to be such a successful drone that it literally overshadowed the more expensive Mavic Pro. I'm afraid DJI's afraid to make a mistake from the first generation, so this time he won't show Mavic 2 Air, who would be trampling on the heels of the Mavic 2 Pro series. This could jeopardize the sale of more expensive drones.
On the other hand, the Mavic Mini promises to be extremely interesting in terms of price. The $399 is really attractive. At this price we would get a three-axis gimbal with a 4K camera, a foldable and very lightweight construction (only 350 g!) and above all the best, best DJI software on the market. If all these parameters are confirmed, a big hit is coming up.
