There is no "reinventing the wheel" when it comes to the camera's design. The REXSO Explorer Dual looks very similar to a GoPro cam and measures 5.9 x 4.1 x 2.1cm without the waterproof case. The cam is exceptionally lightweight as well — it weighs only 66 grams. The compact size makes it a great fit for travel and action sports: be that hiking, surfing, skiing or even aerial photography. The REXSO Explorer Dual cam is easy to operate, as you would expect of an action camera. With one round button, you will be able to quickly take photos and start the recording process.
On the front, you have all the standard components — with the addition of a mini display that shows battery status, date and time as well as additional information on the camera's stats.
On the back, there is a 2 inch LCD display for seeing what you are recording and taking pictures of as well as viewing your footage and imagery. The display takes most of the camera's back panel and provides an expansive view of the recorded media. Thus, despite the camera's small size, you will be able to quickly preview your footage right on the camera — and in good quality.
On one side, you will find the camera's ports: micro USB, HDMI and an SD card slot allowing good connectivity with other devices.
On the other side, there are two physical buttons for controlling playback: fast forward and rewind buttons. The controls make the playback very convenient and you won't need to touch the screen — which is a highly suitable option for an action cam, as you may be filming under different conditions.
On the top you have the shutter button and a mic opening. The relatively big shutter is convenient for quickly taking pictures and starting to record videos.
On the bottom, the camera features a compartment for its 1050mAh battery. The battery is easy to remove and put back in — thus, again, you won't have to spend too much time fiddling with the battery compartment.
The camera is capable of recording in 4K at 24 frames per second, 1080p at 60 frames per second, and features a 16MP image resolution. One of the action camera's main strong points is filming in the dark (night vision function): coming with an optical stabilizer, the camera is able to film with low noise even in poor lighting conditions. The 1050mAh battery allows 60 minutes of non-stop recording and the standby time is about 70 hours. When charging, you will need about 3 hours for filling the battery to the full.
You can shoot videos and take photos with a 170-degree wide angle — letting you get more of the background into each shot. On the action side, the included waterproof case lets the camera work at up to 30 meters underwater. The protective box prevents dust, sand and other debris from getting inside the camera.
The cam runs on the new generation Novatek 96660 chip, which can handle graphics efficiently without consuming too much power — even when shooting in HD.
The 2 inch LCD screen on the back offers a comfortable way to watch the footage and imagery that you have taken. The cam sports good connectivity: it supports WiFi, has a micro USB port, and an HDMI port for efficient communication with other devices. Thanks to WiFi support, you can instantly share your photos and videos on social media and more.
The Explorer Dual comes with several shooting modes: naturally, you have photo and video — plus, you will be able to shoot in slo-mo and create a time lapse. The availability of several shooting modes will significantly reduce post-editing time and will let you instantly achieve the needed effects.
While the GoPro Hero 5's price tag climbs up to almost $400, the Explorer Dual 4K Action Camera is only $74.22. For the significantly lower price, you get most of the same functionality: decent resolution, easy operation, WiFi support, compact design, waterproof case and more. Considering that an action cam is mostly used in rough conditions, its small price tag is also a strong advantage — especially if anything goes wrong and the camera gets lost or damaged.
