GIGABYTE unveils Aorus NVMe Gen4 SSD

ByDaniel Camilo 2019-05-30 595

Gigabyte recently demonstrated the Aorus NVMe Gen4 SSD. It has now been confirmed that a heat sink made entirely of copper will be used. The thermal conductivity of copper has a comparative advantage over aluminum. In addition, GIGABYTE uses Phison's Phison PS5016-E16 controller: it has a read speed of up to 5,000MB/s and a write speed of 4,400 MB/s and up to 750,000 / 700,000 IOPS.

The Gigabyte Aorus NVMe Gen4 SSD is available in 1TB or 2TB versions using Toshiba 96-layer 3D TLC NAND (BiCS4) with DDR4 cache. The power consumption is 21mW when idle, 6.5W when reading, and 6.6W when writing, due to the size of the heat sink increased to 80.5 × 11.4 × 23.5 mm. The warranty period is five years.

NVMe's SSD cooling modules are becoming more and more exaggerated. In all fairness, this is not an improvement, but we as consumers can only cater to this trend. Good heat dissipation is not a bad thing after all.
