January 21, 2019 update: the feature has begun to deploy on Android and iOS in some regions of the world including the United States and the United Kingdom, as reported by 9to5Google.
Google Maps is often considered the Swiss Army Knife for short and long-distance travellers. It must be said that the application installed on Android is as useful for motorists as it is for pedestrians, and includes many features.
However, by car, many people prefer Waze. It is therefore not for nothing that Google bought it, and gradually integrates its features. One of its greatest strengths will soon be integrated into Maps.
The Android Police community has indeed identified the deployment of a new feature on the application, for the moment on a small part of the users. These are radar alerts, which appear both in the preview of the map and during the trip, with a small sound notification as a bonus.
Like Waze, this detection would be based on the community of users themselves. On Google Maps, it has already been identified the integration of new buttons allowing drivers to warn others of an accident but also of the presence of a radar.
This feature seems to be unlocked on the server side by Google. It is therefore not said that we are taking advantage of it quickly, and we must therefore be patient in order to see how the situation evolves over the coming weeks.
