Google Pixel Buds 2 Review: AirPods's arch-rival?

ByJoe Horner 2019-10-16 2132

Yesterday, Google held a fall 2019 hardware launch in the United States. The first new product to be unveiled is the Pixel Buds 2 wireless headset. It is an updated version of Pixel Buds 1, which was launched in 2017. The new Pixel Buds 2 is Google's true wireless earplugs designed to integrate seamlessly with Google Assistant and other Google services and it may be a strong competitor to Apple AirPods.

The design of Google Pixel Buds 2

The new Pixel Buds 2 has been redesigned to improve its shape from a flat shape to a slender circle with a short wingtip. In addition, they are incredibly light and are designed to be as inconspicuous as possible. More hidden and small, not as big as the AirPods.

In addition to the size, the Google Pixel Buds 2 is also very comfortable to wear. Thanks to its unique "space vents", the Buds 2 is worn on the ear as if it were not wearing headphones, and there is no common sense of stuffiness like other TWS wireless earplugs.

The highlights of Google Pixel Buds 2

Like the first generation of Pixel Buds, the new Pixel Buds 2 can be deeply integrated with Google Assistant and can be controlled by the usual "Hey Google" or "Okay Google". Like other electronic products of Google, they provide many powerful functions, such as real-time translation, music control and so on.

Moreover, Pixel Buds 2 focuses on enhancing the remote Bluetooth connection function, and the Bluetooth connectable distance has been greatly improved. Even if the phone is not around, you can use them as usual.

For example, Pixel Buds 2 can maintain a connection between up to three rooms inside the space, and the strongest can reach the length of a football field outside the space.

Although Google Pixel Buds 2 does not support active noise reduction, its earplugs are designed to keep headphone fins flush with your ears to help seal them firmly inside your ears. The addition of all-in-the-ear design means that when you put them in your ears, you will be able to get some good isolation and provide a good sound quality.

In terms of endurance, Google Pixel Buds 2 can play music for 5 hours in a row, with a charging box for up to 24 hours. Support for pairing with Pixel phones and other Android 6.0 + devices, Bluetooth 4.0 + laptops, tablets and iOS devices.

The price and availability of Google Pixel Buds 2

Pixel Buds 2 will be available in spring 2020 in four different colors: mint green, white, black and orange. The Pixel Buds 2 costs $179, making it competitive with AirPods, but more expensive than Samsung Galaxy Buds.

Given its lightweight, comfortable design, smart features and clear sound effects, the new Pixel Buds 2 seems to be a valuable complement to the growing market for TWS true wireless headphones.
