The major E3 show has just begun in the United States and many announcements have already been made. However, for Google, the big video game event took place a few days ago, when it gave more detailed information on its Stadia cloud gaming platform.
It was then the opportunity to discover the games compatible with this streaming service from its launch, but also the different packages available and the subscription price in France. But even if Google has already lifted the veil on Stadia, this does not prevent the Mountain View firm from being discreetly present at E3 and answering a few more questions.
Phil Harrison, Stadia's development manager, gave an interview to 9to5Google on the sidelines of the Los Angeles show. He provided some additional information about the cloud gaming service. The most interesting part of the interview concerns new subscription packages.
Phil Harrison explains that some game publishers "are also starting to think about their own subscriptions" within Stadia. In other words, users of the platform will be able to opt for a special subscription to access an additional catalogue. This could potentially be of interest to players of Stadia Base, the free service formula, but who are particularly interested in EA or Bethesda titles for example.
I don't think it will be for all publishers, but for some of them who have the largest catalogues and most important collections.
In a way, this is reminiscent of viewers who have access to free TV channels, but who also pay to enjoy the Canal or OCS package.
To sum up, on Stadia, you can therefore choose between the Pro subscription giving you advantages, including access to certain paid titles, and the free Basic package. In both cases, it would be possible to add a subscription giving free access to a publisher's catalogue.
Phil Harrison also confirmed the arrival of free-to-play games, which is no surprise to anyone. As a reminder, you can play these games for free, but you have to pay money in game to access some bonuses that make the experience more enjoyable.
As a reminder, Stadia Base will only be available from 2020. Remember to test your connection to make sure you can enjoy the cloud gaming service.
