Huawei launched StorySign: an Android app to help deaf children read via AI technology

Recently, Huawei launched a free Android application StorySign, which adopts image recognition and optical character recognition (OCR) technology to help deaf children learn to read.

With this application called StorySign for books, smartphones will use Huawei AI to convert individual words into sign language one by one, and the relevant sign language actions are presented by cartoon images. The cartoon image of the application was created by Aardman Animations, supported by the European Association for the Deaf and the British Association for the Deaf.

StorySign is currently available for download at Google Play and Huawei AppGallery App Stores. There are currently 10 sign languages in support of British, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Netherlands, Portugal, Ireland, Belgian Flemish and Swiss German.
