The Standard Model of the Huawei Mate 20 series doesn't make it to the top Spot on our phone leaderboard. After all, his big Brother proves this: The Huawei Mate 20 Pro (for Testing). But the Mate 20 also convinces in the Test in some Categories. With a Price of 799 Euros, however, it comes on the Market about 200 Euros more cheaply. Interested Parties can choose between Black, Midnight Blue and Twilight.
At the Sight of the Mate 20, you might think you're holding the pro model in your Hands. In The Glass Case it looks noble, the Workmanship is of high quality. The Camera on the Back looks exactly like that of the Mate 20 Pro, as it is also arranged symmetrically to the Center Axis and consists of three Lenses. Together with an LED flash, it forms into a Square and protrudes only minimally from the Case.
However, with the Mate 20, the Fingerprint Sensor sits below the Camera at the Back and is – different from the Pro – is not integrated into the Display. He reacts very quickly for that. Buyers will Also have to forgo the Pro model's vaulted margins reminiscent of the Galaxy S9.
The Mate 20 is released in 18.7:9 format, a one-handed Operation Becomes a bit difficult with small Hands. But The Display is also huge. It measures 6.5 Inches in the Diagonal and has a mini recess in water drop shape at The top Of the Display. It is smaller than the Pro model because Huawei does not install 3D facial recognition sensors in it. This makes the Display almost borderless.
Since the Mate 20 does not offer an OLED display, but a cheaper LC display, it does not represent Colors quite as vigorously as the Mate 20 Pro. However, the Display still covers 132 Per cent of the standard RGB colour space. The Resolution can't quite match that of the Mate 20 Pro, sufficiently sharp it is with 2,244 x 1,080 pixels (FHD +) and a Pixel Density of 381 all the time. At 443 Candela per Square metre, it doesn't shine as brightly as the Pro Model (565 Candela per square metre) or the iPhone XS (673 Candela per Square metre).
The Kirin-980 processor, which is produced in the 7-Nanometer process, works in both Mate 20 models. Competitive Products such as Qualcomm'S Snapdragon 845 still build on 10 Nanometers. Only Apple'S iPhone XS has the A12 Bionic processor manufactured on a 7-Nanometer basis. The Process with the smaller Structural Width is intended to significantly improve Processor speed as well as energy Efficiency.
The Kirin 980 is supported by 4 GByte RAM, while The Mate 20 Pro Is 6 GByte. However, the missing two GBytes do not make themselves felt in everyday Operation: Both Systems of the Mate-20 models react quickly and fluidly, and the elaborate Split-screen application also works smoothly free. But our performance benchmark shows that it goes even faster. The Mate 20 Takes about 12 seconds to load a self-created PDF With countless Street Names. For Comparison, The iPhone XS ONLY takes about 4 Seconds to do this. The Mali-G76 GPU offers maximum graphical Performance.
Although the Mate 20 ' s Battery is 200 Milliamper-hour smaller (4,000 instead of 4,200 Milliamper-hours at the Pro), it endures an incredible 16:08 hours in our online runtime test, where we automatically play videos and scroll on Websites. Mate 20 's Battery Life is almost 6 Hours longer than Mate 20 Pro'S. This is so extraordinary that we have repeated the Test six times. And each Time, the Mate 20 held on to the 16 Hours through – while maintaining Display Brightness. Actually, the Pro model would have to persevere for so long. We can only explain the big Difference with an Interplay from the higher resolution OLED display and another Background Process in the Pro. A timely firmware update could potentially hold the Pro for longer.
In about 2 Hours, the Mate 20 is fully loaded again. After 30 Minutes, it's already over 50 Percent. But this can only be done wirelessly with the Pro model.
The Leica camera on the Back of the Mate 20 is similar to that of the Pro, but is a bit slimmed down in resolution. The black/white sensor drops out, but a 16-Megapixel ultra Wide-angle lens with f/2.2 is new. This allows ultra macro shots from a Distance of 2.5 Centimetres or ultra Wide-angle shots of large Groups and sprawling Landscapes. In Addition, a 12-Megapixel main lens with f/1.8 and an 8-Megapixel tele lens with f/2.4 are part of the triple camera setup. The "Dual-tone flash " can adjust to the Color Temperature.
The Differences in quality between the two Mate-20 models are small despite less Megapixel in the base model (Pro: 40, 20 and 8 Megapixels). The Shots in Daylight are good and colorful. The Top Class doesn't reach them, though. That'S where Apple's iPhone XS models and Google's Pixel 3 series have the edge. The Mate-20 camera consistently tries to soften noise, which loses Details in Structures such as Yarn or Hair. When Sharpness is missing from the Shots, the Cam tries to sharpen up, raising Contrasts too much and thereby amplifying Reflections until they look a bit unnatural. Here, however, we complain at a high Level.
Videos Turn you in 4K, which is common for High-end models at the Price. When Shooting videos, it stands out: The Image Stabilizer based on artificial Intelligence does a good Job, the Recordings hardly blur at all. Artificial Intelligence is also used for Object Recognition. For example, the Mate 20 cameras have new Modes for Video Recording. New to this, for Example, is the Feature "AI-Colour ," which only paints the detected Object and represents the Background in black and white. This works very precisely – Hat off, Huawei! The Feature "Background Blur " offers the Possibility to make video recordings with a blurred background, but in Practice this works out not quite as reliably, especially when Moving.
In the case of Portrait Shots, on the other hand, the bokeh effect is very accurate. By the Way, the front Camera of the Mate 20 Pro Snaps with 24 Megapixels. Unlocking via Face scan is therefore also possible, but not quite as safe as that of the Mate 20 Pro.
The Huawei Mate 20 comes on the market in this country with 4 GByte of RAM and 128 GBytes of internal Storage. If this is not enough, you can extend the Storage Space to up to 256 GBytes. However, Huawei Relies on its new Nano Memory Cards, which – as the Name suggests – are built in Nano-SIM format. Read what it is all about and how To get the new Memory Cards here.
If you don't need a Storage extension, you can use the dual SIM function because, like its Predecessor, the Huawei Mate 20 Pro LTE supports two SIM cards (4G/4G). This allows business users to separate professional and private browsing habits, for example. Also interesting for business purposes is the desktop mode, which now also works wirelessly and turns the Smartphone into a PC replacement.
The Equipment of the Huawei Mate 20 can be seen up to a few Points: The Device supports LTE Cat 16, Wi-Fi ac, Bluetooth 5.0 and NFC. An infrared transmitters for Controlling AV devices are also included.
Many Interested Parties are also pleased that Huawei continues to rely on the follow connector: Apple, HTC and Google are now forgoing it, AND the Pro model of the Mate 20 no longer has one. But at Mate 20, Huawei actually still used the gradual dying classic Jack.
On the Smartphone, Android 9.0 Pie runs under Huawei's EMUI 9.0 User Interface AT The Time of the test. The security patch level dates back to October 1, 2018 and is up-to-date. Huawei usually patches its Smartphones quite reliably in the first year or two. However, there is no update promise on the Part of the Manufacturer.
