The Huawei Nova 5 Pro comes with a 6.39-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 1080x2340 pixels and the pixel density of 403 pixels per inch. The aspect ratio is 19.5:9.
The back of the phone is all glass, uninterrupted by a fingerprint sensor, which is hidden under the display on the front. The phone measures 6.20 x 2.94 x 0.29 inches and is available in a creative selection of gradient colors: Dilemma Forest (Green), Midsummer Purple, Bright Black and Coral Orange.
The main difference between the Huawei Nova 5 Pro and the Redmi K20 Pro is the front camera placement. The K20 Pro comes with a pop-up front camera that slides out from inside the display whenever you need to take a selfie. The Huawei Nova 5, on the other hand, opts for a more “classic” look featuring a waterdrop notch at the top of its display.
The K20 Pro also sports a 6.39-inch Super AMOLED display with HD+ resolution (1080x 2340 pixels) and Gorilla Glass 5 on top. There is also an in-display fingerprint sensor for security.
The phone measures 6.17 x 2.93 x 0.35 inches and is available in three color options: Flame Red, Glacier Blue and Carbon Fiber Black.
As we've mentioned right above, the two phones take different approaches to how their front cameras are placed. The waterdrop notch on the Huawei Nova 5 houses a 32 MP camera with an f/2.0 aperture. The pop-up camera on the Redmi K20 Pro has 20 MP and uses an f/2.2 aperture.
On the back, the Huawei Nova 5 Pro packs the following four-piece combo:
● A 48 MP primary came with an f/1.8 aperture and PDAF
● A second 16 MP cam with an f/2.2 aperture
● A third 2 MP dedicated macro camera with an f/2.4 aperture
● And a fourth 2 MP depth sensor with an f/2.4 aperture
So, how does that compare to the cameras on the Redmi K20 Pro?
The Redmi K20 Pro comes with three cameras on the back:
● A 48 MP main lens with an f/1.8 aperture and PDAF
● A second 8 MP telephoto cam with an f/2.4 aperture, PDAF and a 2x optical zoom
● And a 13 MP ultrawide lens with an f/2.4 aperture.
As both smartphones are still relatively new (with the Nova 5 just released yesterday), we don't yet have any hands-on camera comparisons to look into. While the phones' cameras may look quite similar on paper, in the end, it all comes down to how your photos look.
The Huawei Nova 5 Pro is powered by a 1.8GHz octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 980 processor with cores clocked at 2.6GHz, 2 cores clocked at 1.92GHz and 4 cores clocked at 1.8GHz. It comes with 8GB of RAM and either 128 or 256 GB of internal storage.
The Redmi K20 Pro runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset with an octa-core CPU and Adreno 640 GPU. For RAM, you get the choice of 6GB or 8GB, which you can pair with 64GB, 128GB or 256GB of storage. Both phones use Android 9 based software.
The Huawei Nova 5 Pro is equipped with a 3,500mAh battery and supports 40W fast charging, which, according to Huawei, can get the phone to up to 85% in just half an hour.
The Redmi K20 Pro sports a slightly bigger 4,000mAh battery and supports 27W fast charging. According to Xiaomi, you should be able to charge the phone to 58% in just 30 minutes and charging from 0% to 100% not take longer than 74 minutes.
So, who wins?
The Huawei Nova Pro is the pricier of the two, kicking off at a bit over $430, while the basic version of the K20 Pro is available for under $400. Will the Huawei Nova 5 take on the Redmi K20 Pro as the new budget flagship — we'll have to wait and see — but, so far, the Redmi K20 Pro seems to be holding its best value-for-money position quite firmly.
Note that together with the Huawei Nova 5 Pro, the company has also released the Nova 5 and the Nova 5i.
