Despite its rather classic looks, the Huawei Watch GT is still primarily a sports watch. It sports a 1.4 inch circular colour OLED display and will keep track of your heart rate, count your steps, analyze your sleep patterns and even comes with its out GPS receiver for accurate positioning.
The watch is waterproof, so you will be able to take it swimming and even receive your water workout data. When connected to your smartphone, it will also alert you of all the incoming notifications.
One of the missing elements on the Huawei Watch GT (compared to similar models on the market as well as some of her company’s own products like the Huawei Watch 2) is 4G connectivity. Alas, you won’t be able to use the watch as a standalone mini-phone — but that’s the trade-off needed to allow for a whole month of battery life.
The Huawei Watch GT, thus, works like your regular smartwacth connecting to your phone over Bluetooth and syncing with Huawei’s dedicated health app.
The Huawei Watch GT looks very similar to the company’s previous mode, the Huawei Watch 2. And you can read the full comparison of the two devices here: Huawei Watch GT vs. Huawei Watch 2: which smartwatch is the perfect for you?
With that, it’s not excessively sporty. The watch is available in black or silver with a variety of strap options. Thanks to the standard 22mm pin fittings, you will be able to use the watch with almost any wristband you like, without being limited to Huawei-made selection.
The Watch GT measures only 10.66mm from the front of the screen to the rear of the casing, which makes it one of the thinner models compared to the majority of smartwatches. As mentioned earlier, the screen is a 1.39 inch OLED color display with 454 x 454 resolution.
Yes, the Huawei Watch GT is not particularly eye-catching. But it does come with a whole range of built-in sensors including GPS with GLONASS and BEIDU support, optical heart rate sensor, Accelerometer, gyroscope, compass and even a barometer.
As for the things that are missing there is the aforementioned 4G connectivity, wireless charging and NFC.
It is important to note that the Watch GT is available in several editions. In fact, in late March the company added to new models to the GT line-up: Watch GT Active and Watch GT Elegant editions. Thus, you now have the choice of Classic, Sports, Active and Elegant editions.
The Active edition features the same 46mm watch face as the Classic and Sport editions with a 1.39-inch AMOLED touchscreen display. You also get the same battery life as the Classic and Sport models.
The Elegant edition comes with a smaller 42mm ceramic bezel so will be a better fit for a smaller wrist. It features a 1.2 inch AMOLED screen with the resolution of 390x390 pixels. You will also get less battery life on the Elegant edition due to the model’s smaller size.
Navigating the Huawei Watch GT is pretty easy. You will need to swipe left or right to see the available widgets, swipe down from the top for setting and up from the bottom for notifications.
If you press the upper side button, you will access other apps like the timer, compass, etc.
The lower button will bring up the list of tracking modes. It should be noted here that the watch does come with auto-detect: meaning, it will automatically detect physical activity. However, to save battery life, you will find this option switched off by default. With the Huawei Watch GT, you will have your choice of tracking options: the watch tracks swimming, cycling, running, hiking, climbing, etc.
For heart rate monitoring, the watch relies on HUAWEI TruSeen™ 3.0, which, according to the company, offer an even more accurate real-time monitoring thanks to the use of a self-learning algorithm and innovative sensors.
You also get a real-time workout coach, a feature that is also present on the Huawei Watch 2 and lets you receive guidance training and workout feedback.
HUAWEI TruSleep™ 2.0 is another highlight worth mentioning. Designed in collaboration with Harvard Medical School CDB Centre, this feature will let you receive detailed break-downs of your sleep patterns as well as advice on how to improve the quality of your sleep.
The main highlight of the Huawei Watch GT is the battery life. As we’ve already mentioned several times throughout this post, it’s quite impressive compared to what other smartwacthes have to offer.
According to Huawei, the Watch GT is capable of up to 30 days of battery life on a single charge. Naturally, we are talking about the maximum here and this means certain features of the watch will have to be used in moderation. But even with average use that includes three hours of exercise with GPS tracking and non-stop heart rate monitoring, the watch can last for up to two weeks.
This is quite impressive — especially for a device that comes with a full color OLED display — and unprecedented on the market. In fact, the only sports watch that comes relatively close to the Watch GT in battery life is the Fitbit Ionic — and even here you only get 5 days of battery power on a single charge.
As we keep highlighting throughout this post, there is no beating the Huawei Watch GT when it comes to battery life. And if you are looking for a sports watch that requires minimum charging maintenance, you won’t find a better option that the Huawei Watch GT.
With that, the smartwatch does not not skimp on sensors or tracking features and you will get full support for your workout sessions and rest periods.
The Huawei Watch GT Active Edition is available now on Gearbest with the price of $289.99, and the Huawei Watch GT Sport Edition is priced at $261.65, which is not cheap but very reasonable for that the device brings to the table.
