Intel's 10th generation Core processor allows you to play games on ultra-thin notebooks

After so long, appetite, Intel is finally ready to officially introduce us to the 10nm chip "Ice Lake". Ice Lake will be the first 10th generation Core processor, but Intel will focus on the U-series ultra-low voltage chips for thin and light notebooks, and launch the mainstream versions such as Core i3, i5, and i7. As revealed earlier, Ice Lake will also be equipped with Gen 11's "Iris Plus" display, which will allow the Ice Lake notebook to play at 1080p.

The core of the 10th generation chip is Intel's Sunny Cove architecture, which can carry up to four cores and eight threads and reach the frequency of 4.1GHz. This seems to be a little lower than the 4.6GHz of the i7-8565U, but Intel claims that the Sunny Cove's IPC has increased by 18%, so overall the performance and power saving should be improved. Others like the larger L1 and L2 caches, the new memory controller, the integrated Thunderbolt 3, the Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax), and the 8K30p decoder are all natural.

The display of Gen 11 has increased from 24 execution units of the UHD620 to 64. Intel has finally provided some more realistic game FPS data, not just the percentage of the previous generation. From the illustration, CS:GO (medium quality) is the only one that can reach 60+FPS, and most of them are between 30~40 FPS. Of course, the quality of the selected image will be a big factor. Intel also emphasizes the ability of the 10th generation Core i in AI computing, whether it is processing images through the ResNet-50 deep learning interface, or using AI to sharpen the video, which can greatly speed up the processing.

Although Intel's minimal upgrades of mainstream processors in recent years have made it hard to be excited, the tenth generation seems to be preparing for a fairly comprehensive leap forward, from process to micro-architecture, functions, and internal display. It is worth mentioning the promotion. It's no wonder that Intel will launch Project Athena, encouraging pens and e-commerce companies to develop new notebooks that take full advantage of Ice Lake's new capabilities.
