Apple has a difficult task in 2019: selling the iPhone. Consumers increasingly spend more time with their cell phone before changing it and the prices of new models over US $ 1,000 also do not help convince them to buy a recent one.
The Cupertino company will try this year, through some new features, to make consumers want to buy their new iPhone with desire. This attempt will be led by at least two versions of the iPhone 11 (or iPhone XI), a name by which the successors of the iPhone are informally known. iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max .
The iPhone 11 possibly be 5.8 inches, iPhone 11 Max of 6.5 inches, will maintain a design very similar to the one we started to see with the iPhone X in 2017, but with some variants. Also, we will see improvements in performance, increased processor speed and perhaps more RAM, new connectivity protocols and more changes.
iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Max: Release date and price
The launch information is the latest to be revealed through reports and rumors, but Apple has been launching new high-end iPhone in the fall for several years, specifically in September - and there is no reason to believe that planning will move this year seasonal.
The iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Max, if they end up calling it that way, would be presented in September and possibly with prices starting at US $ 999 and US $ 1,100 just like the current models. It is unlikely that Apple will lower its prices despite being selling fewer phones than expected, so do not wait for the miracle of an iPhone at a lower price than what they currently cost.
If something happens about prices, maybe it would not be for the better. Being phones manufactured in China, Apple could face a tax on the export of cell phones from China, and the company would increase the price of cell phones to compensate for the payment of this tax, according to The Wall Street Journal . This price increase would depend on whether Donald Trump, president of the United States, decides to impose the supposed tax on phones and other devices from China.
With the iPhone 11, Apple will join the trend of placing more cameras on the back of cell phones, and although the company will not lose its senses with the number of lenses, will use three cameras on the back of at least one of These new models, supposedly for the iPhone 11 Max.
If the trio of cameras is confirmed for just one model, Apple will return to the strategy of promoting its largest-and most expensive-phone as the best camera system in its portfolio.
During the emergence of the dual camera, Apple chose to place a camera for your phone of smaller size and two cameras for the larger, this made consumers who wanted better camera opted for the Plus model. But with the XS, Apple does not make a difference in the camera system.
To boost the sales of the larger model (which represents more revenue for the firm), Apple would place this system of three cameras, according to multiple reports . The three-chamber system would be similar to Huawei Mate 20 Pro , even in the design and location of the cameras, at least as it appears in concepts published on the Internet (see an example in the image inserted above). The rumors still do not clarify the functioning of these three cameras.
The Bloomberg news agency reinforced in January what it has been saying for some time: the successor model of the iPhone XS Max, possibly announced under the name of iPhone 11 Max, will be the only one with all three cameras. He also reiterated that he expects the launch of three successor phones of the same number announced in 2018.
2019 could be a year to drastically change the design on the iPhone, but it is unlikely to happen. Instead, slight changes are expected, especially in the size of the eyebrow, tongue, notch or whatever you like to tell the controversial tab on the top of the iPhone screen and other phones.
According to rumors, the technology has improved from 2017 to date to the point where the sensors that are located in the eyebrow of the iPhone occupy less space, and now Apple has the possibility of decreasing the size of the eyebrow in these new phones.
The rest of the body of the cell phone would remain glass in front and behind, and with a reinforced steel frame. Some concepts devise an iPhone 11 with a similar finish to the iPad Pro (2018) of square sides, but it is unlikely. During the following months more data will be given and it will be clarified if there is -or not- new design on the iPhone 11. Of course, rumors say that the body will have the IP68 water resistance certification , same as the iPhone XS.
Bloomberg said in a report published in January that the design will be very similar, almost the same, to the iPhone XS; and the expected redesign will be left for the 2020 iPhone that will also have a camera with 3D functions on the back (similar to the TrueDepth technology) and use Sony technology (which was already announced by the Japanese firm).
As said by Matokara in April, the successor of the iPhone XS would be thinner than the current model and would also increase its size from 5.8 to 6.1 inches, same screen size as the iPhone XR. The new 6.1-inch phone would also be thinner than the iPhone XS, the media reported.
The iPhone 11 will also have improvements under the chassis: between 3GB and 4GB of RAM; a processor (perhaps named A13) faster, more agile and with better functions of artificial intelligence and security; compatible with Wi-Fi 6 connectivity and the addition of the USB type C port, although the latter is one of the most dubious issues because some reports suggest it and others deny it.
The rumors do not mention anything (yet) about the new processor and the amount of RAM, but advance that Apple will place the USB port type C as it did with the iPad Pro 11 inches and 12.9 inches. The iPhone is the only relevant product of the company that still does not add this peripheral that represents an improvement in both loading speed and ease of information transfer.
Rumors also mention compatibility with Wi-Fi 6 (also known as 802.11ax). and although it is not elaborated in details it is obvious that the iPhone 11, to equip this technology, would have all the improvements offered by the new standard of wireless connectivity.
The screen is another aspect that would have improvements. The reliable Asian medium ET News claims that Samsung will produce a screen with Y-Octa technology consisting of the OLED screen and the touchpad on the same panel, eliminating the need to use a panel for the screen and another panel for touch functions, allowing the device to be more thin. Apple would use this new panel.
Of course, a new iPhone can not arrive without new software and Apple already works on iOS 13, the version that will logically happen to iOS 12. According to Bloomberg, iOS 13 will have new features and drastic visual changes.
The Dark Mode, which Apple officially adopted on their Macs with Mojave macOS, will hit iOS 13. Dark Mode, or Dark Mode in Spanish, darkens the entire interface to improve visibility at night or in low light conditions. Darkening the interface not only improves visibility sometimes, but it can also help save battery life on cell phones with an OLED display.
Apple also prepares changes in iOS 13 specific to the iPad. Bloomberg says that iOS 13 will bring tablets a new home screen, a new file management system and an improved version of CarPlay, the iOS interface for cars.
