iPod touch is refreshed by Apple with iPhone 7’s processor

The device will have a new processor and up to 256GB of storage. If you're an iPod fan, today's your lucky day. Apple has announced a new updated version of iPod Touch, which will run from an A10 Fusion processor, the same one found on iPhone 7. In addition, the technology company upgrades the device's storage capacity to 256GB.

This is the first update to the iPod Touch since July 2015, when the sixth generation of this model was launched. According to The Verge, apart from the processor and storage improvements, everything points to Apple maintaining the 4-inch screen, the start button and the cameras of its latest version.

The new iPod Touch will work from an A10 Fusion processor, the same one found on iPhone 7.

With this announcement, iPod Touch catches up with iPhone 7, the least powerful mobile phone the company sells today. However, the new processor will provide Apple's device with enough power to carry out new features: group calls by FaceTime or augmented reality applications. In fact, the company says that, compared to the previous model, the updated version will offer up to two times faster CPU performance and up to three times faster graphics.

On the other hand, Apple expects its Apple Arcade game subscription service to be a key part of the device. This could be one of the reasons that has led the technology giant to renovate the interior of the iPod Touch. It makes sense, given Apple's recent focus on subscriptions as a new source of revenue in the future.

This update is not a renewed design of the device, expected by many Apple fans, but the increased specifications mean that the new iPod Touch will be able to run the next versions of iOS without too many problems, and the recycled design will keep the price down, making it a good entry-level option. In terms of price, the 32GB model will be priced at $199, the 128GB will be priced at $299, and finally, the new 256GB option will cost $399.
