Now, let’s look at both devices in more detail.
The Lenovo Z6 Pro meant to be an eye-catcher. The phone is made of glass and metal and brings down its bezels to the minimum. The phone’s chin is barely there as well and there is only a tiny waterdrop notch at the top of the phone standing in the way of a full screen experience. The notch is home to the phone’s front-facing camera and an earpiece is placed right above it.
All the physical controls are placed on the right-hand side of the phone and there is a slight curve on the back. Here, you will also find the four cameras (one of the main highlights of the device) aligned vertically. There is also a LED flash.
The Xiaomi Mi 9 is also an impressive looking phone. The phone’s back is a dingle Gorilla Glass 5 piece, slightly bent towards the frame. On the back, there is the phone’s triple camera setup and an LED flash. There is a small bulge where the phone’s cameras are and it will wobble slightly if you put it face down. On the front, there is a display of the same size as on the Lenovo Z6 Pro, very thin bezels and a tiny waterdrop notch housing the phone’s front camera.
The Lenovo Z6 Pro is quite a powerful device running on the Snapdragon 855, which is one of the world’s first commercial 5G mobile platforms speeding up to 2.84 GHz and comprising one Kryo 485 ‘Prime’ core, three Kryo 485 cores and four Kryo 385 cores.
When it comes to RAM options, you will get to choose between 6GB, 8GB and even 12GB — the latter is more than enough for lots of multitasking. When it comes to storage varieties, there are the following options: 128GB, 256GB and 512GB.
The Mi 9 runs on the same exact processor (the Snapdragon 855) but you get slightly more modest RAM and storage options: 6GB or 8GB and 64GB or 128GB.
On the software side, the Xiaomi Mi 9 runs on the MIUI 10 (based on Android 9.0 Pie). The Lenovo Z6 Pro also comes with pre-loaded Android 9 Pie OS — but with ZUI 11 on top.
The Lenovo Z6 Pro comes with a 4000mAh battery with fast charging and, on the Xiaomi Mi 9, there is a 3300 mAh battery with Quick Charge 4+ and fast 20W wireless charging.
Good cameras have long jumped to the forefront of our requirements when it comes to mobile devices. Both, the Lenovo Z6 Pro and the Mi 9 come with impressive offers on the camera side.
The Lenovo Z6 Pro sports a quad camera setup on the back. This includes:
● a 48MP ( f/1.8, PDAF) primary sensor
● a 16MP (f/2.2, 12mm) ultrawide lens
● an 8MP (f/2.4, PDAF) telephoto lens
● a 2MP (f/1.8, 2.9µm, OIS, PDAF) dedicated video cam
● Plus, there is aTOF 3D camera.
Thanks to the combination of a telephoto, wide-angle and macro lenses, the Z6 Pro can easily handle multi-scene composition and give you an extensive coverage of the photo scene. On the front, there is a 32MP selfie shooter.
The Xiaomi Mi 9 has three cameras on the back:
● a 48MP (f/1.8, 27mm) main sensor
● a 16MP (f/2.2, 13mm) ultrawide lens
● and a 12MP (f/2.2, 54mm) telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom
According to multiple reviews, the Mi 9’s camera is capable of detail, an impressive dynamic range, accurate color rendering and good processing. On the front, there is a 20MP cam.
So, which smartphone is better: the Lenovo Z6 Pro or the Xiaomi Mi 9?
Lenovo is a relatively new player on the mobile market and Xiaomi would probably be a more familiar option for most. With that, the company’s flagship smartphones do come with impressive specs and features. And, at least on paper, the Z6 Pro is a very strong rival to the Mi 9 and other similar devices. The design, cameras, processor and an impressive amount of RAM and storage make the Lenovo Z6 Pro a very interesting mid-range option in a predominantly Xiaomi-owned field.
