The new Mac Pro was introduced on June 3 at WWDC 2019. Computer sales should start this fall. The pricing policy is quite in the spirit of Apple - a workstation in the initial configuration will cost the American buyer $5999. But it should be understood that the modularity of the computer implies the use of other components, and the love of the "apple" to propriety will also play a role in pricing. By preliminary estimations the maximum complete set with new display Apple Pro Display XDR can manage in $60,000. By the way, prices in Russia are still unknown.
macOS Catalina (version 10.15)
3.5 GHz Octa-Core Intel Xeon Processor (Turbo Boost up to 4 GHz)
AMD Radeon Pro 580X
RAM - 32 GB DDR4 ECC, drive - 256 GB SSD
8 PCI ports, 4 USB-C (Thunderbolt) ports, 2 USB-A ports, 2 RJ45 ports (10Gb Ethernet), 3.5 mm audio jack
Up to 1.4 kilowatts
529 x 450 x 218 mm, 18 kg
Of course, the desktop doesn't have a built-in display, but not talking about the Pro Display XDR that was introduced with the Mac Pro would be wrong. The display is a 32-inch Retina IPS matrix with a resolution of 6016x3384 pixels (6K) and anti-reflective coating. XDR in the title, this is an attempt by Apple to emphasize that the screen supports the extreme dynamic range of HDR with extended color gamut P3. Brightness of a matrix makes 1000 nits, but as developers notice, separate sites of the display give out glow to 1600 nits.
Externally, the monitor is made in the same style as the Mac Pro - a matte metal case with cells on the back side, which should help dissipate heat. Special attention should be paid to the stand Pro Stand, for which Apple asks $1000. The device adjusts the tilt and height, and turns the monitor into a portrait mode.
Sharpshots immediately after the presentation called the Mac Pro a "grater" for the distinctive appearance of the front panel. But in fact, it's a rethought classic desktop design that existed until 2013. Apple did work on the mistakes made in the last generation and focused on the modularity of the design. The frame of the case is made of stainless steel racks, where the panels and stuffing are attached.
To get access to the components from any side, you just need to remove the aluminum hood, which is done by simply turning the special fastener. The front and rear panels have large honeycomb panels, which are designed to cool the workstation more efficiently.
"The heart of the computer is the Intel Xeon processors, which can have up to 28 cores with a power of 300 watts. The basic version will get an 8-core Intel Xeon processor with a clock speed of 3.5 GHz (acceleration up to 4 GHz). Special attention was paid to the cooling system and acoustic comfort. Thus, when working at full capacity, the workstation will have to unobtrusively rustle.
The Mac Pro in the "base" has a powerful graphics card Radeon Pro 580X, but it gives only initial opportunities for this workstation. So, you can choose a graphics processor Radeon Pro Vega II with a capacity of up to 14 teraflops and 32 GB of memory with a bandwidth of 1 TB / s. A version with a Radeon Pro Vega II Duo card will be available, with a capacity of 28 teraflops and 64 GB of memory. That's not enough - it's possible to equip the workstation with two Vega II Duo systems, giving it a total graphics performance of 56 teraflops and 128 GB of video memory. In addition to video memory, it uses an Apple Afterburner acceleration board that plays up to three 8K ProRes RAW video streams simultaneously.
RAM starts at 32 GB and 12 DIMM slots can be expanded to titanium 1.5 TB. The Mac Pro architecture does not require hard drives, only SSDs with a maximum aggregate capacity of up to 4 TB can be used.
Of the interfaces, the Mac Pro has 8 PCI Express slots, four of which are twice the width for larger expansion cards. Two USB-C Thunderbolt ports and two USB-A ports can be found on the inside of the computer, while two more USB-C Thunderbolt ports are located next to the power button.
