It is known that MTK's first 5G SoC uses TSMC's 7nm process and integrates MediaTek's own Helio M70 modem.
This baseband supports 5G NR spectrum below 6GHz, carrier aggregation up to 2x, and a standalone/non-independent 5G network architecture.
It should be noted that we are unable to see millimeter wave (mmWave) applications in the early stages of 5G construction. Therefore, the strategic consideration of MTK should be a few years after the popularization of 5G.
Of course, for those who have been complaining about MediaTek's "disappointment", this time the company is able to "launch" products based on ARM's latest Cortex-A77 CPU and Mali-G77 GPU, which is a major advancement.
In addition, MediaTek will also adopt its own third-generation APU design and significantly enhance the image performance of the SoC. It is said that it now supports 4K@60fps codec and ISP with up to 80 megapixels.
Finally, we don't know much about the market positioning of this SoC. However, from the perspective of historical strategy, MediaTek is expected to exert its strength on mid-end products, and related products are expected to arrive in 2020.
