NVIDIA seems to be specializing in covering certain ranges with new intermediate models, all in order not to let its rival eat up sales ground. This is, on the other hand, a show of strength and responsiveness, as it does not let the rival, in this case AMD, mark the terrain.
At the moment they are simple rumors, so take the following information as such, but the first data of this supposed new graphics card would leave us with a rather curious panorama, since if these data are true the new RTX 2070 Ti would be between 10 and 15% above the RTX 2070, approaching dangerously to the RTX 2080 and GTX 1080 Ti.
This is possible because I would use the same TU104 as both Turing models, but would carry a new intermediate version with 40 SM, which would give us 2560 Shaders. This figure would lead us to a supposed count of the rest of features not seen until now: 160 TMUs, 64 ROPs, 320 Tensor Cores and 40 RT Cores.
The caches would keep their size, so we would find 64 KB per SM and a total of 4 MB for the L2, something characteristic of this TU104 and does not influence the configuration of the SM and the rest of units.
The rumors go further, as they claim that he would arrive with the same amount of VRAM and speed as his top and bottom models in the series. This means that it would host 8 GB of GDDR6 at 14 Gbps, not entering at first into what is supposed to be the Super series.
In addition, the speed in its boost would also be boosted, so that we would find a speed of 1.770 MHz, that is, 60 MHz more than the Founders Edition version of the RTX 2070. This would make the final performance of this card very close to the RTX 2080, as happened in its day with the GTX 1070 Ti, where the performance was very even and the price was somewhat lower than this.
Some rumors even point out that it could be presented outside of the Super series but at the same time as this one, since in addition, the price of the RTX of the current 20 series could fall up to 100 dollars to make way for the new versions of these. This obviously clashes head-on with the last rumor we saw about the price of the possible Super series, or maybe they just wanted to say that the current 20 series would lower the price and that the new series would keep the ones we see so far.
It is to be hoped that soon we will be able to get out of doubts, but in any case any improvement of the price is welcome.
