OPPO K3 hands-on review

ByAdeline Belluz 2019-05-27 1549

OPPO made a bold product line adjustment this year, enriching the original R series into the more innovative RENO and RENO tenfold zoom series. At the middle and low end market, they labeled the K series as "hardcore youth", trying to explore the cost-performance market which they were not good at before.

As the main subject of this evaluation, whether OPPO K3 (hereinafter referred to as K3) can meet the overall positioning of "hardcore youth", and what choices are made while piling materials? We are going to start today with a brief introduction.

When you open the box to look at the phone, the first thing that brings you is the sense of surprise, because there was a lot of warm-up before the release is the "hardcore youth. But to be honest, the dark gradient on the back + curved glass + metal frame, combined with the full screen, gives the K3 a look level above this price range.

Specifically, the K3 is modest in size but heavy in weight, a common problem with this year's top-pop structure: the mechanical structure is not light, and the top of the body changes the center of gravity. Fortunately, the size itself is not exaggerated, so the final weight is not too much.

The K3 on the back of the body adopts the gradient from light to dark from top to bottom. The color style on the upper side is similar to R17's coagulant green, which gradually deepens downward and finally turns into pure black. The simple color scheme creates a sense of advancement, but the dark department did not do frosted glass processing. The fingerprint collection effect is obvious.

The front of the camera is a combination of the lifting lens and the fingerprint under the screen. Because of the pop-up lens, the top forehead is not wide, and the black edge from the side to the top is smooth. Those are the surprising parts of the phone, but obviously at this price, there are trade-offs.

The most obvious part of the appearance is the screen. The first difference is the chin. Even if you don't directly look at the contrast, you can still feel that this is the chin of a low-end mobile phone -- relatively wide. The gap between the screen display layer and the glass touch area is relatively obvious, which is also a common problem in this price range.

In addition, there is a relatively obvious "sense of gap" at the junction of SIM card slots and the opening and middle frame of the top lifting structure in the body, which is also the performance of the lower model in the middle end market. In short, only the appearance level card in the same price can be considered above, but the details of the process can also see the product positioning that it should have.

Performance: 8GB of memory is an invisible hardcore attribute

We reviewed this K3 with a basic hardware combination of snapdragon 710+8GB RAM+256GB ROM. It's fair to say that snapdragon 710 is the most popular and capable mobile phone in android today. But if you insist on Posting "hard core", this topic is actually the RAM part.

The advantage of large memory (RAM) for mobile phone is that it can transfer data better, which can be understood as the transfer station of computing core and storage components. For android users, this increase in data capacity can reduce the overhead and overhead of multiple applications running in parallel. As the hardware improves, the software itself increases RAM usage for functionality and experience. Therefore, the mobile phone storage has gradually changed from the original 4GB flagship to the introduction of 4GB. Correspondingly, the hardware specifications for better security experience have also been improved to 6GB and 8GB.

This is the reason why K3 chooses to upgrade RAM, which may not be the key factor affecting the running score, but in practice, when the applications are used more, it becomes a stuck part of the game experience. Additionally, K3 adopts a 2.1 high speed memory. Compared with the DDR4 specification ROM, it also has a better processing performance.

According to the test, the snapdragon 710 runs at 150,000 + on the K3, while the frame rate of Honor of King remains at 60 + or so. Combined with the data, the advantage of K3 lies in the long-term use of RAM and high speed data processing to give a smooth bonus, but this bonus is not reflected in the running score data.

Photo: Excellent overall looking

K3 adopts a rear dual camera module with 16 +2 megapixels. However, the parameters are not enough to judge the phone's photo level. The algorithm is the main source of addition.

 Excellent overall looking

K3 performed well in the daytime sample, with strong tone. So the first look is good.

Nowadays, the use of HDR in a large number of scenes is a significant factor in the improvement of mobile phone photography, and K3 is no exception. In: outdoor strong light, indoor with floor-to-ceiling window glass, local strong light source, backlight and a large number of environments, we can see the use of this technology.

When it comes to K3, the first impression in the large-light ratio sample is still good. Without going into the details, it's actually pretty high standard.

After turning on HDR, K3 still has local high-light overexposure and partial color distortion caused by HDR. It is also difficult to focus in extremely low light. Of course, these issues are all in contrast to today's top-rated flagship models, where the K3 has a significantly better camera than the same model in the same price range last year.

The noise of the K3 in dark light is obviously different from that of the flagship device, and the highlight is clearly smudged. In other ways, K3 is doing well. The photo is takes is quite good at the first sight.

Conclusion: K3 performs well in terms of performance, look and photography. In the middle and low end market, it doesn’t conduct the theory of focusing only on performance. In the overall performance of the balance, but also maintain some of their own high-end equipment genes and design style. In addition, the underscreen fingerprint identification function is also a big selling point of this product. The pop-up lens, which can also be regarded as a selling point of the current middle and high-end mobile phones, is also included.
