The Oppo R17 is the perfect example of a quality mid-range phone — but can it stand out in the sea of similar devices?

There are quite a few things that make the Oppo R17 stand out. First, it sports a glamourous bezel-free 6.4 inch display with 2340 x 1080 resolution and one of the tiniest notches we've seen on the smartphone.
There are more design elements that make the Oppo R17 a true eye catcher. If you are tired of the standard blacks and whites and are not a fan of the fancy rose gold, the Oppo R17 will be a true sight for sore eyes. The phone comes in a stunning three-gradient metallic-blue or purple that are particularly impressive in bright lighting. It may feel a bit heavy in the hand (it weighs 182 grams) but this also gives the phone a more "expensive" feel. Plus, you get the fashionable underscreen fingerprint sensor.
Another must-have of a modern best selling smartphone are good cameras. The Oppo R17 does not disappoint in this aspect either. The rear cam is 16MP + 5MP with AI functionality resulting in quality scene shots. More than that, the phone's HDR mode takes an interesting processing approach by using raw photo data, which results in a much cleaner and richer final image. On the front, you get a top-notch selfie shooter with 25MP and a set of AI features in the form of the phone's dedicated beauty mode. The so-called "intelligent facial beautification" is capable of giving you a face lift, enhancing your makeup as well as 8 other real time adjustments.
The Oppo R17 runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 Octa Core speeding up to 2.0GHz. This comes with an impressive 8GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage.
There is the 3,500mAh battery that should easily be able to last you a full day.
As the name modestly suggests, the Oppo R17 Pro is the "upgraded" version of the Oppo R17. What are the key upgrades?
The main upgrade on the R17 Pro is that the phone comes with three cameras (compared to the dual camera setup on the R17). Two of the cameras come with a mechanical aperture (think the Samsung Galaxy S9), switching between f1.5 and f2.4 to ensure better results in low light conditions. The third cam is the so-called Time-of-Flight (TOF) camera, which, according to Oppo, can be used for 3D scans as well as space mapping for AR (augmented reality) functionality. On the front, there is the same 25MP selfie shooter.
There is a more powerful processor under the hood — the Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 with 8 cores. You also get a bit more battery juice — 3700mAh on the R17 Pro compared to 3500mAh on the R17 and the Pro model also supports fast charging.
The two phones come with identical displays — 6.4-inch full-HD with 2,340x1,080 pixels for resolution — as well as the same amount of RAM and internal storage.
Design-wise, you get the same bezel-free look with a tiny notch and stunning gradient color finish.
To sum up, let's take a quick look at the key specs of both smartphones side by side.

The OPPO R17(8GB + 128GB) is now available at $549.99 on GearBest. Acoording to the official news, the OPPO R17 pro will start to sell by this middle of October, and the price will be about $120 higher than OPPO R17.
In our humble opinion, the triple camera setup would probably be the main reason why potential buyers would be happy to add on an extra $120. As mobile photography game is becoming more and more intense, having a smartphone that can take DSLR-like photos comes with a number of obvious benefits. With that, the R17 does give you all the functionality you want to see in a modern phone — and for less. Plus, you can take same quality selfies on both devices.
