Oppo Reno: this is the first shark fin smartphone!

Oppo presented this week the first two models of a new range called Reno. The Oppo Reno features a borderless screen, no notch or hole, but with a fun hidden system in its slice.

A selfie cam hidden in a shark fin

Recently, Oppo unveiled this Smartphone. Or rather the two versions of the Smartphone, since it comes in two models. The first, subject of a later article, is a flagship that should succeed the find X. The second one, which we detail here, is a premium mid-range mobile that could largely replace the RX17 Pro that we know in France or the F11 Pro. Moreover, the comparison with the latter is not trivial: the F11 Pro was the first oppo mobile with a periscopic selfie cam.

And precisely, the "classic" Reno adopts a borderless design without a hole and no notch. Which means the selfie cam is hidden somewhere. Where? In the upper slice of course. As the rumour mentioned earlier, part of the slice rises and reveals a part that Anglo-Saxon journalists, still very imaged in comparisons, qualify as shark fin. And it's true that this part looks like one to this marine appendage. But its use is almost identical to that of a periscopic selfie cam.

Premium platform

Beyond this peculiarity, the Reno is therefore a mobile mid-range premium. Let's take back the main features of its datasheet. Front, 6.4-inch full HD + AMOLED display (402 pixels per inch resolution), Corning's gorilla 6 mineral glass protection, slab-integrated fingerprint reader. Inside, Qualcomm's Snapdragon 710 chipset (like the RX17 Pro), 6 or 8gb of RAM, 128 or 256 GB of storage without possible expansion, battery 3765 mAh compatible fast load VOOC 3.0.

Photo side, dual sensor 48 + 5 megapixels (the second only used to calculate distances) with opening lenses at f/1.7 and f/2.4, phase detection autofocus and dual LED flash. The selfie cam is a 16 Megapixel model with lens opening at f/2.0. Android 9.0 pie is the basis for ColorOS 6. The phone will be on sale in China before the end of April. Three possible configurations: 6 + 128gb which will be sold at 3000 Yuan (395 euros), 6 + 256 GB to 3300 Yuan (435 euros) and 8 + 256 GB to 3600 Yuan (474 euros).
