We love curious gadgets, different ones, and when young people with restless minds come together to give the coconut there can only be interesting devices. It is the example of PiSoftech, a company founded by students of the University of Science and Technology of Hong Kong that has just presented what could look like the 360 camera smartphone.

Beware of what these guys propose because the solution is ingenious, and that is that their Pilot camera was promising and very much incorporating 4 lenses, a full color touch screen and 8K resolution to capture images and videos in 360 degrees with the best quality of the market.

It is a young company, and it is not trivial that they have specialized in 3D image processing software building the "brain" of many of the 360 cameras on the market, because the Pilot Era takes advantage of all this experience to become, in the words of Adler Shen, CEO of PiSoftech, a 360 device and not just a camera:

This is a 360 device, not just a 360 camera. You will not need a computer - we have built the only camera in the world capable of streaming 360 and Streetview without the need for additional equipment.

Since we founded the company 7 years ago and designed the brain within many other 360 cameras, we wanted to develop our own brain taking advantage of the experience first hand, and providing everything that is missing from the other cameras in the market.

The promises of virtual reality and immersive video, resolved in a stroke
It is true that PiSoftech is probably being too ambitious in his words, but the truth is that everything we are told a priori we love. The new Pilot Era seems to have solved many of the problems of content creation for VR and / or 360 degree videos.

The main objective of this device is precisely this, to become the number one camera in the world when creating digital content for VR, and can even transmit 360 video directly and live, without deep technical knowledge, without expensive devices and without complex configurations.

All this even counting with the Google Streetview certification to capture and publish contents on the giant search engine's global platform, and with an 8K resolution in addition to integrated software and a screen to edit and mount video without the need for a PC to process before to post.

The Pilot Era is like a smartphone with 4 cameras, capable of capturing panoramic video in 360 degrees and with a touch screen where you can use a customized version of Android to fully control the operation of the camera: configuration, monitoring, streaming, editing and published directly.

A hardware that lives up to expectations

The PiSoftech camera has four 12 megapixel photographic systems with aperture f / 2.2 and Sony sensors, with the ability to capture video at resolutions up to 8K with stereo audio and streaming on YouTube, Facebook or custom servers.

It works with Android customized by Pilot OS, and a touch screen of 3.1 inches with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixels manufactured with LCD technology and animated by a battery of 7,200 mAh that we can replace and that achieves autonomies of up to 3 and a half hours.

In terms of connectivity, much to offer, with WiFi 802.11a / b / g / n / ac, Bluetooth 4.1 and LTE thanks to a SIM slot. In addition, it has aGPS, a gyroscope, and USB-C and RJ45 GigabitEthernet connectors.

The memory reaches up to 4 GB of RAM, and adds another 512 GB of UFS storage with a capacity of up to 6.5 hours of 8K video or up to 26,000 panoramic photographs.

All in a square design body with dimensions of 16 x 6 x 6 centimeters and a weight of 690 grams. Much more manageable than any professional content creation device for VR and compatible with standard accessories.

Pilot Era, prices and availability

The Hong Kong-based manufacturer is already finalizing the development of the Pilot Era, which will be released on May 7 on the Indiegogo platform, with the possibility of registering directly from here.

With so many capacities its price will obviously not be cheap, but the $ 2,599 puts it in tune with any professional camera. In addition, its launch will have a special price of $ 1,999 -1.795 euros at the current rate, which will even be lower for early adopters, who will get a discount of up to $ 800 on the PVP if they book early.

Shipments will start a month later, starting in June, although the rest of the information about the launch will be published with its landing on the crowdfunding platform, which will also serve as a launching shop.
